Publisher's summary

From the New York Times best-selling author of the Marked Men series comes an irresistible romance about a rugged Texas sheriff who must protect the woman who was once his sworn enemy....

Case Lawton comes from a family of criminals. So as the sheriff of Loveless, Texas, he's determined to do everything by the book - until he's called to Aspen Barlow's office after a so-called break-in. The last thing he wants to do is help the woman who cost him custody of his son. But Aspen isn't the heartless lawyer Case remembers, and he starts to question his long-held grudge....

Aspen is scared for her life, and Case is her last hope for protection. But to get him on her side, she'll have to reveal the painful truth from all those years ago. Now, as they work together to track down a dangerous criminal, Case and Aspen learn to trust each other. And as the threats escalate, it becomes clear there's a thin line between love and hate...because there's nothing Case wouldn't do to keep her safe.

I WANT MORE!

I enjoyed Jay’s last (cowboy) series but I don’t know something was missing for me in it. Don’t get me wrong I still really enjoyed but I am putting it out here this book is AWESOME!

The narration is fantastic Virginia Rose is quickly becoming an auto-buy for me. She really does voices too well. Austin Stone was grrrrreat! Lol, no joke he was Case!

The characters are perfect well not really but the way Jay wrote them they are. You really get a sense of who each one is and how they fit. I loved the feel of this book it was a second chance but not really.

I loved the mystery the suspense it really brought the story to another level, I never would have guessed seriously nope I LOVED THAT! It wasn’t predictable YAY!

I want more like yesterday but I can wait, I hope we get Case’s sister next ;)

Don't waste your credit

I got this on two for one sale. This story line is stupid and unrealistic. I mean she has perfect marriage and wants a divorce? someone tries three time in one day to murder here I mean come on. She jumps off roof survives spends four days in hospital and is fine again unrealistic. If this is how books are written I think I will start writing. UGH!!! Would like my credit back Jay!!

Loved this suspenseful and mysterious Texas romance!!

“Change isn’t always a bad thing. There’s no moving forward if you stay standing still in the same spot forever.”

This enemies to lovers romance certainly kept me on my toes! Filled with suspense, mystery and plenty of steam in the bedroom, this audiobook was Texas perfection, with a sexy sheriff and a strong, feisty lawyer at odds before finding love.

Case Lawton despises anything and everything having to do with Aspen Barlow, the woman in his eyes is responsible for helping to keep his son away from him for years. It doesn’t matter that she was just doing her job as a lawyer, his hatred knows no bounds and everyone in town knows it. I felt the justification for his misplaced anger, but he was definitely stubborn and unwilling to see that Aspen was putting his son first no matter the outcome.

And I truly felt for Aspen, always feeling like she never had a place to truly fit in, being the new girl in a small Texas town definitely wasn’t easy and being Case’s enemy didn’t make it easier. So when someone sets their sights on taking revenge on Aspen, potentially wanting to kill her, Case has no choice but to help protect her and his town. I loved that the story turned into a forced proximity romance, stuck under Case’s roof, they find that maybe their hatred is misplaced and there is something between them after all.

“She belonged with us. She was ours to take care of and to love. She filled up all the empty spaces I hadn’t realized were there until she broke through all the barriers that I had put in place to protect my heart“

And let me tell you - this man’s voice for narration- SWOON, Austin is just fantastic! Did I immediately look up what else he narrates, YES and have I already bought the next book in this series because I need more of him, YES. And let me not forget Virginia, she is a favorite of mine and is outstanding as the sassy heroine.

Some books just make you lose sleep!

This book...WOW...now in my ‘unputdownable’ list!
It’s no secret around town that Sheriff Case Lawton can’t stand divorce lawyer, Aspen Barlow, after all, she’s the reason that he lost custody of his son 10yrs ago! Of course, it didn’t help that his father, then sheriff, was a known corrupt lawman and had tried to bribe the judge. Now Case has to put his animosity aside and investigate the threats against Aspen. But sometimes things aren’t what they seem.
Aspen was 14yo when her family had moved to the small Texas town and the only person who had been kind to her was Case Lawton. Fast forward several years later and Aspen is present when Case is served with divorce papers. When she attempts to give him advice, Case lashes out at Aspen...his loss, literally, because Aspen was then hired to represent his ex-wife and she took away everything that meant something to him. Except, that wasn’t the entire story. Unbeknownst to Case, Aspen had worked in his best interest.
When Case is forced to take Aspen into protective custody, he begins to see a different side to her. Can he forgive and allow his feelings to grow? Or will the threat to Aspen take her out of his life for good?
Riveting story with lots of suspense...you will be blown away by the person behind Aspen’s threats! Definitely a must read/listen.

Small-town PERFECTION!!

This was my first JC book and now I am dying for the second book in the series.

Justified is the standard of what books set in small towns should be!! It was funny, exciting, and full of twists and turns set in the back drop of a charming little town in Texas. I mean is there anything better?!

awesome

I don't know how I haven't read this story before cause I got all her books. It was predictable at times but when you come from a messed up family that is how life is for most. I honestly don't mind the short sex seen cause you get more of the story. The narrators was excellent. I enjoyed it will definitely keep to listen to again.

Good for a short fill in listen.

Story is predictable for first 3/4 but takes a bit of a surprising turn in the final quarter. I prefer that the writer lets me fill in the graphic sex details as those scenes seemed a bit forced and did not flee with the story. Some excitement throughout made this a good listen while waiting for a favorite author to publish another episode.

Lovely

Cowboys are always interesting in love stories and this is a predictable outcome but the details of how you get there are quite interesting. It was read very very nicely and it made you want to continue the story even when you maybe wanted to put it down which honestly I did not. Again predictable outcome but if your in it for the in between give it a go.
