Publisher's summary

Every day, my neighbor tells me to have a good morning. Every day, I tell him to f*ck off.

Kyle Lane is the town's hottest cop. He's also the man I've despised since high school. Each morning, he stands on his porch with an annoying smirk on his perfect face. He's made it his life's mission to get under my skin.

Until one day, he's no longer on his porch but on mine. He claims he wants to redeem himself for ruining my reputation. My instincts tell me to stay away, but with each morning he shows up, it becomes harder and harder to resist his charm.

I was never supposed to fall in love with my neighbor and once he finds out my secret, we'll forever be enemies.

 Contains mature themes.

Not for me...

It took me a few chapters to warm up to the the male lead, Kyle. He was a cocky, arrogant which translated to unlikable. Chloe explained why her and Kyle were enemies (he made her life miserable in HS) and it immediately endeared me to her. When it was Kyle's chapter, I had hope that his POV would cause me to appreciate his character more. It didn't.

The book get a smidge better in the middle when they become a couple...the fun times earned them their stars. Kyle was sweet. Chloe let her guard down. Things were great until a deep secret comes out about the family.

Then he turns back into the arrogant @$s from high school. Treated her like he did in HS too. I was ready to end the book and give up on him but held out. Things had to get better...right...??

Wrong!! With 30 minutes left to revive the mood, they do the unthinkable and veer this story into grief and heartache 💔 😢.

All the pretty words in the last few minutes didn't make it better for me. I didn't like this book.

However, I would recommend  this book to someone looking for a book to read about characters with flaws in an imperfect world. Real life troubles should have broke them up but they stick through it.

⚠️ Trigger warning and a spoiler...

Not what bargained for…child abuse

Definitely not what signed I up for. Presents as steamy romance but there are components of child neglect & solicitation, drug abuse, cheating. Be warned-this book is such a trigger.

Wonderful 👏🏻

In this captivating audiobook, you might assume it's just another typical romantic tale, but be prepared for a delightful surprise. The author's mastery of suspense will keep you eagerly awaiting the next chapter, craving to uncover its secrets. Yet, this story is so much more than a love story; it delves into powerful social narratives that will surely bring tears to your eyes. I wholeheartedly applaud this beautifully heartwarming story. 🙌🏻

Finished it only because it was part of a series

This book annoyed me, no end. The female had no backbone and took the blame for things that were not her fault. But more frustrating than that was the fact that the author never had her stand up for herself and place the blame where it belonged. Also, the male lead was completely judgemental and blamed the female lead for the wrongs of others. The author just glosses over all of this and ends with a totally unbelievable HEA. Yes, it is possible that these characters could have reached a HEA, but that would only have realistically happened after much soul searching and communication. There was none of that with these characters. Like I said, I only finished this book because it was in a series. Otherwise, I would have stopped halfway through.

Hard Fougbt

Man, what these characters put each other through throughout this book was soul crushing. I think Chloe was particular victimized as it felt like for a good portion of the book she had hate and drama from every direction. Kyle felt like a force for good for a majority (with some exceptions that I won’t go into and spoil). Overall, excellent read.

Not Better Than Book 3, But Not Worse Than Book 2 . . .

I still like Book 3 the best . . . so far . . . But this one turned out not to be as bad as I first thought! 😊 It was also a Second Chance book—kinda—the 2 leads went to a school dance together in high school . . . that ended badly . . . But, at first, I did NOT like Kyle (the male lead) AT ALL!! There IS such a thing as being TOO cocky in male leads in romance. Normally, I like male leads to be cocky & confident, BUT Kyle was TOO cocky for my liking—to the point of being WAY too arrogant & even REALLY rude at times!! Just rubbed me the wrong way … 😑 I liked the female lead, Chloe, well enough & understood, given her background & what happened in high school, why she was hesitant & hating on Kyle in the beginning. HOWEVER, I think she gave in WAY too easily. I would have made Kyle work for forgiveness a lot more before giving in to him (he didn’t rape her or anything in high school, if that’s what you’re thinking don’t worry 😉, but he do do something “very not cool” in high school. Also, about giving in, I also didn’t quite like how he didn’t ask Chloe before touching her (I’m talking about now, NOT in high school). Now, I understand that Chloe wasn’t exactly fighting it either, but it still seemed kinda forced … I just think he should asked beforehand (again, he did NOT rape her AT ALL; let me repeat: IT WAS NOT RAPE AT ALL!!) Also, the chapters were WAY too long!! Whatever happened to the short chapters we were getting with the other books in the series?? Let’s hope the chapters in Book 5 aren’t THAT long!! Anyway, I liked the 2nd half a lot better; Kyle apologized for what he did in high school & was a lot less of a jerk in the 2nd half!! Also NO annoying Willow in this one, either! 😏 Really looking forward to Book 5 now: Maliki & Sierra’s story! 😊👍🏻

Loved it

I haven't been this emotional while listening to a book in a long time, and i average about 200-250 books a year. I stumbled across this series because I like the narrator. Listened to the next book first actually without realizing it was a part of a series, but these clearly work well as stand alone's as well. The characters are well written, perfect amount of smut, and the story seems like it could be real life.

Fantastic

I wont give out any spoilers, except to say that I loved this book so much I bought the other 5 available in the series.

I've listened to this book about 5 times now, I enjoyed it so much. Charity Ferrell needs to hurry up and get the rest of this series out as Audiobooks asap!

Kyle and Chloe have had a trouble relationship in the past over childish misunderstandings that ruined her reputation as a young teen and Kyle's always regretted it, secretly pining for the girl who lives next door while being a typical hot young cop with his fair share of female company. Chloe gets drunk one night and after driving her home he's more determined than ever to win a second chance with the sexy reporter next door. Soon Chloe can't resist the undeniable attraction they share and they begin a casual fling which is complicated by the weight of the secrets she's been keeping.

Huge, life altering secrets that do for a while, rip this sweet and hot couple apart for a time until tragedy strikes and Kyle becomes the only thing holding Chloe together.

Narration was great. Overall this was very enjoyable.

Great story

Great story. Didn’t expect the twists or the tragedy. Great performances from the narrators, although, I’m not really a fan of Samantha Cook. I can’t put my finger on why.. maybe uptight? Whiny? Tense? Reporter like? Not sure.

Aaron Shedlock’s performance was great as always.
