Book 1 (Finding Myself on the Appalachian Trail) begins as Jim, an electrical engineer, is experiencing a major mid-life crisis. After being divorced for many years, he suddenly loses the job he loves. To help clear his head, he decides to backpack the Appalachian Tril, something he’d wanted to do since his college days. He ends up thru-hiking the entire AT, returning home far more content and purpose-driven.
In book 2 (Back from the Appalachian Trail) Jim reconnects with a beautiful single woman he met during his trek. Following a somewhat contracted, largely virtual relationship, the two fall in love and are married. Jim continues reflecting on his many trail experiences that included encounters with a wide range of individuals from all walks of life. With support from his new wife, Jim realizes he may have been called to serve and begins taking Divinity classes at a local college.
In book 3 (The Journey Continues) has the opportunity to reconnect with a number of the individuals he met during his trek and learns that he affected many in a very positive way and that they in turn had a profound effect on his life. The book ends with the birth of the couple’s daughter.
This, the fourth and final book in the AT series, completes Jim journey of discovery.
