Editorial Reviews

Dr. Bill Creasy of Logos Bible Study uses a literary, historical approach to examine and enliven the bible for modern listeners. Dr. Creasy draws on his studies, travels, and personal anecdotes to depict a vivid picture of the works of scripture. Somewhere between a sermon and a college lecture, he delivers these audiobooks with authority but a pleasantly friendly voice and a touch of fun, using contemporary references.

In this lesson, Dr. Creasy discusses the hardships that Joshua overcomes in leading the Israelites into Canaan and conquering Jericho in the Book of Joshua. As Dr. Creasy puts it, there were no satellites for intel so they had to figure out other forms of reconnaissance.

Publisher's Summary

With Moses dead, Israel stands on the threshold of the Promised Land, looking to Joshua for leadership. Join Logos Bible Study as Dr. Bill Creasy takes us across the Jordan River and into the land of “milk and honey” in a brutal conquest - a campaign of extermination that raises profound moral and ethical questions in its day, as well as in ours.

Excellent Bible Study

I also posted this on Amazon.com. This series contains the audio from class lectures by Dr. Bill Creasy.

Dr. Creasy covers each book verse-by-verse, providing context to the material by explaining other passages in the Bible that may relate to a passage under study, with descriptions of corresponding historical events and the geography and their relationship to the passage, as well as anecdotes from his travels or study. I find it extremely helpful to study the Bible in context with geography and history.

As explained in the opening lesson on Genesis, this study starts with Genesis in the Old Testament, then moves to Matthew in the New Testament, then Exodus and Leviticus in the Old Testament, then back to Mark in the New Testament, and so on. Dr. Creasy does this because 1) if covered in weekly segments, as done in his class, it would be in year 5 before he got to Matthew, and 2) to help show the relationship between Old Testament and New Testament.

According to the syllabus I received from Dr. Creasy (he sometimes deviates from this in class), Joshua is the tenth in the Logos Bible Study series, preceded by John and followed by Judges. Joshua has 24 chapters, and the study is comprised of 4 lessons. Total time - 3 hours, 16 minutes.

Dr Creasy's teaching on Joshua

I accidentally found Dr C's teaching as I randomly (or so I thought) looked for some insightful and in depth teaching on scripture. After listening to Dr C teach from the Bible in one yr I was amazed and blown away and am going through every single lesson by Dr C on audible.

Dr creasy may never see this comment but thank you !!!! You have helped deepen my faith with solid exposition and Spirit filled teaching and I'm am super grateful!

Great analogy on why God said to destroy everthing

Any additional comments?

Dr Creasey is an excellent teacher. He's been to the holy lands and witnessed the numerous archaeological digs. He knows the world history at the time of the Biblical events. He presents the Bible in a unique way that makes every book a pleasure to dive into.

Joshua was given a big job in that he was to conquer and wipe out the opposing forces. And by wipe out, God commanded all men, women, and children. On the surface this seems cruel and excessive. Dr Creasey gives a good analogy as to why God gave that order.

This lecture series is highly recommended.

Doesn't really know what the story is about

Would you try another book from Dr. Bill Creasy and/or Dr. Bill Creasy?

No.

Has Joshua turned you off from other books in this genre?

No.

Did Dr. Bill Creasy do a good job differentiating all the characters? How?

No.

Did Joshua inspire you to do anything?

No.

Any additional comments?

He doesn't seem to understand, or even to have thought much about, the key question in the story: why did God have the Israelites kill everyone and take the land? The narrative has enough detail that quite a lot can be said about this, but Dr. Creasy has little to say about the faith or its meanings.
