What made the experience of listening to Joe - the Horse Nobody Loved the most enjoyable?

I received the Audible version straight from the author. That in itself makes it special.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Of course, Vicky herself. I related to her so much with her love of animals, being a bit of a loner, and her determination.

What aspect of Dorothy Deavers’s performance would you have changed?

Although she has a very pleasant voice, I thought there were times when she sounded a little sleepy and when I read the same lines in the book, I didn't hear "sleepy" at all. She slurs her words sometimes and I had to stop and back up 30 seconds to hear the line again because I didn't understand her. But that was minor in an otherwise fine performance on her part.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Without spoiling the story for anyone, the final chapter had me crying so hard I couldn't see.

Any additional comments?

I love a good "animal story", and this one goes down on my list of favorites of all time. Wonderful book, highly recommended.

brought me back to my childhood!

as I listened to this book it transported me back to my childhood growing up at Coventry Riding Stables. oh the horses that we had on the hack line, each with personalities and quirks. loved this book and reliving my childhood!

The whole book, brings back memories of my horse crazy childhood, sad when it was over I am sure I will listen to it again and again none

No, it is best done bit by bit so it can be enjoyed

I love this book. It is a fresh first person account of a lonely little girl who befriends an angry, frightened, abused horse named Joe. Many of Vicky's childhood experiences remind me of mine. She was kindhearted and painfully shy.

Vicky shares it all, the fears, the foolishness, the embarrassing, inexplicable ways of childhood, the crazy fun, the pure joy of loving and being loved by a horse.

The narrator is so good I actually thought she was the author! When her voice breaks with emotion, it's clear that although many years have passed and sweet Joe is grazing in elysian fields, it's as if it all happened a moment ago. This is a perfect bedtime story. It'll leave your eyes moist and your heart glowing.

A beautiful story

A beautiful and heartfelt story of love, connection, and compassion. I and my children all fell in love with Joe, dare I say, as much as young Vicky.

This is a great audio book. My very favorite.

Great Story

I loved the story. I was able to visualize all of the characters. Wish it was actually narrated by a young girl. I would recommend it to all age groups.

More than just a horse story

Vicki has a rural way of writing that transmits you right to the spot where this little girl is transforming this wonderful pony’s life as seen through her eyes.
