Excellent Documentary Style

This was the most thorough descriptions of battlegrounds & battle logistics with details most books don’t include. Like what was happening behind the scenes, and the “why?’s of some decisions & actions. It held my interest all the way thru. I found myself most attentive when it was a location in Va. or MD, vs Ga or La as I am less familiar with those states & topography. It helps to be surrounded by the history of the actual events!! Also I had never known about the tunnel dug in Petersburg by the Union. That was a tremendous undertaking for the times!! Also them not using the negro soldiers in the tunnel. Just splendid details, thank you!!

Far more than a battlefield tour guide!!

I’ve listened to and tremendously enjoyed the civil war trilogy in addition to all of Jeff Shaara’s civil war historical novels. I am definitely a civil war buff. This book was one of the most enjoyable listens. Jeff Shaara gives a vivid portrayal of these battlefields while giving the listener a succinct but understandable description of the battle. I’ve read many great works written by the academic historians which, of course, are more detailed but this is one of my favorites.

The details were great and you suggest places you should see. you feel like you're there.
