Publisher's summary

This bundle combines two instructional Java books into one:

  • Java Programming: An Introduction, History, and the Fundamentals for Creating Your First Program
  • Java Programming: Intermediate Concepts for the Fundamentals of Object Oriented Programming

These are the first two books in a series dedicated to learning about Java and Java programming. Java is a simple yet powerful programming language, taught in colleges and used by companies all over the world. It is one of the most common programming languages used in modern business, and a graspable entry into the object-oriented class of programming languages. This book will take you from complete novice to knowledgeable beginner, with an appreciation for the history behind Java development. You will finish this entry in the series with the tools and building blocks necessary to write simple Java programs, and the foundation of learning necessary to advance to the intermediate, more complex facets of Java smoothly and seamlessly.

This book covers some of the following topics:

  • Who created Java, and why
  • An overview of object oriented programming (OOP)
  • Tools, commands, and the code to build your first set of programs
  • Variables
  • Data structures
  • Control structures
  • Control flow
  • Nested loops
  • Method overloading

...and many more aspects of the powerful Java language. Whether your end goal is to work in Silicon Valley, create games, or build your own app - every journey begins with a single step. Take the first couple of steps on your journey to harness the power of code!

The narrator reads each code examples

it's really annoying and 50% of the book. I was looking for more concepts. intermediate concepts include loops and case statements. I would consider those beginner as well.

Would be better in print

The book itself was good but I didn’t like it in audiobook format. Having someone read the code line by line was repetitive, where in print once you get the idea of the code you can skim over the repeated lines.

great book but not a great audio book

The book is short and to the point, it covers plenty of topics and they are well explained but it is not a book to listen to while doing something else or while moving. A good portion of the book is code being recited so you want to be typing/writing it down to completely understand it.
