The best gifts last a lifetime....

Veterinarian J.T. "Rush" Rushford isn't looking forward to Christmas. It'll be his first without his beloved four-year-old daughter, Claire. A year ago, Rush's wife divorced him for another man - then broke his heart further by revealing that Claire was her lover's child. The final blow was Rush losing all parental rights. Now he's in Branding Iron, Texas, with his mobile vet practice, just hoping to get through the season - until something like a Christmas miracle happens....

Turns out Claire's parents are going on an extended cruise, leaving Rush to take her for the holidays. It's bittersweet, knowing that he and Claire will have to part again, maybe forever.... Until a smart, not to mention beautiful, lady judge with a pregnant cat and an aging mutt takes a liking to the vet and his little girl and gets involved. With her on their side, and love in their hearts, this Christmas just might be the most joyous of all....

Loved This Book

This is the first book I've read from Janet Dailey. I love her style of writing as she draws the reader into the story and keeps you there, locked until the end. Jack Garrett does a wonderful job with the narration as well. I'm very sorry to learn of Janet's death.

Repetitive story and terrible narration..

I wasn’t that crazy about this book. For one thing Tracy mourned her dead husband, while lusting after Rush and trying to deny it. AND it wasn’t until 85% she finally let it go. Almost 8 hours of listening to her thoughts on the husband and then more mourning thoughts on the old dog that was going to die any day, that was her dead husband’s. It became too much. And, believe it or not, 42 reviewers gave the narrator, Jack Garrett, 4 and 5 stars! Really? Tracy sounded manly, as did Maggie, as did Clara who was 4 years old. I will not listen to this narrator again, unless the main characters are 99% men. He might do okay in a murder mystery, or something like that. BUT a romance is no good for him. There was no sex and no swearing.
