Publisher's Summary

Tessa Bailey is back with a Schitt's Creek-inspired rom-com about a Hollywood "It Girl" who's cut off from her wealthy family and exiled to a small Pacific Northwest beach town... where she butts heads with a surly, sexy local who thinks she doesn't belong.

Piper Bellinger is fashionable, influential, and her reputation as a wild child means the paparazzi are constantly on her heels. When too much champagne and an out-of-control rooftop party lands Piper in the slammer, her stepfather decides enough is enough. So he cuts her off, and sends Piper and her sister to learn some responsibility running their late father's dive bar... in Washington.

Piper hasn't even been in Westport for five minutes when she meets big, bearded sea captain Brendan, who thinks she won't last a week outside of Beverly Hills. So what if Piper can't do math, and the idea of sleeping in a shabby apartment with bunk beds gives her hives. How bad could it really be? She's determined to show her stepfather—and the hot, grumpy local—that she's more than a pretty face.

Except it's a small town and everywhere she turns, she bumps into Brendan. The fun-loving socialite and the gruff fisherman are polar opposites, but there's an undeniable attraction simmering between them. Piper doesn't want any distractions, especially feelings for a man who sails off into the sunset for weeks at a time. Yet as she reconnects with her past and begins to feel at home in Westport, Piper starts to wonder if the cold, glamorous life she knew is what she truly wants. LA is calling her name, but Brendan—and this town full of memories—may have already caught her heart.

Pardon me while I finish my eye roll.

Started out light & semi interesting. Who knows how it ends because it got so ridiculously raunchy that I found myself in a continual eye roll. Not a raised brow with peaked interests but a full-on eye roll that could only be marveled by a teenager.
The narrator was acceptable in the beginning as the story line begins with the main female character. However, her voice does not help the ridiculousness of the story line as she slips into the male character as he describes all of the sexual acts he plans on performing on the main female character. The author clearly is looking for shock value rather than any substance.
Walk away quickly. Save your credit for better writing and narration. I’m off to try and retrieve my eye balls that have clearly rolled so far back in my head that they may never be the same.

Get It! Get It Now!

I love Tessa's books. I've never read one I didn't love. But this. This is next level. I listened to it once and immediately restarted it and listened again. I've never ever done that with another book before. This isn't just in my top 5 faves. It soared so far past them into number one it's impressive. Just get it. Now. Hurrrrry!

So frustrating!

Weak materialistic female, strong earthy male....crappy
stereotypes! Not a prude, but not a voyeur either. Labored microscopic porn! Could not get past this enough to finish the book. Westport is a lovely, hardworking PNW town, not Hicksville.

Wonderful listen while sewing

I was pleasantly surprised to find this book wasn't about a 21 year old. I enjoyed how the relationship quickly unfolded between the characters. Situations that could be drawn out into drama were made into real life. Just don't listen to this when the kids are in the room. Very steamy love scenes.

Sometimes less is more. Lol

I guess the story was fine. Beverly Hills princess meets burly rough-around-the-edges fisherman. Fine. Lots of sex. Lots. Fairly graphic. All fine. Maybe it’s just me… but the “dirty talk” that frequently happened *during* the graphic sex scenes….. uh….. had me rolling my eyes. If a guy said that stuff to me during crazy good sex, I’d have to pause, look him in the eye, and say “Ssshhhhh….” Lol.

Awful

Returned. The main character is so unloveable- ditzy, annoying, needy, predictable, whiney, everything that women should try not to be. You can’t root for her because there’s nothing to like about her. Have no idea how this book has so many good reviews. Absolutely horrid. And I gave it a chance- pained through the first 4 chapters. Do not recommend.

The Queen Tessa Bailey has done again!

My best read of 2021 so far. Funny, charming, and the chemistry is electric. Brendan might be my new favorite book boyfriend. So much depth to the story between the MCs and the town the book is set in. I hope this book gets adapted for a TV series or a movie.

Amateur sexy.

started off OK, but it soon became a cliche love story with graphic sex scenes far too often for my preference.

Surprisingly good

For a romance story this is actually a very good listen. I’m sure there will be a story to follow about the sister to come as well. The narration was spot on for the main character.

It happened one summer!

After an uncertain start I was soon drawn in by Tessa Bailey's style of writing.
I have to say that I enjoyed this audio book almost more than any other! There were surprises a plenty. Lots of raw sex, real Iove portrayal, fun and suspense. Sorry to reach the end but delighted to find part 2 to look forward to. Thank you Tessa Bailey!!

A great summer romance

This one definitely worth the TikTok hype! Loved that Piper is so unapologetically high maintenance and loved Brendan’s personality; all I spied was green flags 👀 best narration on Audible for me so far; will definitely listen to this Narrator again.

Loved it!

In the beginning, I was worried I won't like Piper. But she is such a cute character. I've got all the laughs and awwws from this book that I need from my rom coms. So why not 5 stars?

* SPOILERS A HEAD *

The reasons it didn't get 5 stars from me are very few.
I really thought that he was going to accidentally post her nudes on Instagram. I was dying from anxiety. When it didn't happened the actual thing really hadn't this level of impact. Crisis we've got was mostly based on coincidences and some anger that wasn't really convincing.
It kind of now feels like a lost opportunity.

What a treat from start to finish. Probably my favourite Tessa Bailey yet. Great character development and growth, lovely humour, tenderness and charm. And brilliant narration by Ms North too - 👏

Different from your regular rom com

At the beginning of this book I found myself rolling my eyes at the main character, but by the end I loved her. It is really refreshing for a book to romanticise the simple lives many people lead. I thought the performance of this book was really well done. The actor put a lot of effort into differentiating the characters. I totally applaud her efforts getting through the spicy scenes, of which there were many! 🌶🌶🌶

Great until that last 6 chapters

I was hooked (ha!) until about chapter 26 and then lost interest really quickly because of the cringy and unrealistic relationship being played out. I could predict the ending really easily.

I have thoughts..

2.5 stars.

hear me out, I enjoyed this book, I liked piper and her character and her growth.. the sea captain was okay too. I enjoyed the story and the narrative. what wasn't for me - were the 0 to 100 intimate scenes. they were so over the top and unrealistic that it made me cringe.. I skipped a lot of them because they all seemed the same, and gave me the ick. I am no prude, but this felt too much..

Only good for the man in the end. Unsatisfied Ending for main character

I sometimes found the book a little hard to follow when the perspective jumped between Piper and Brendan out of nowhere. I also kind of annoying that there was no resolution for Piper with her stepfather at the end. It left a major plot hole which could have seen the character mature into a strong woman lead and not just become Brendan’s lap dog. Enjoyed overall, but doesn’t have re-reading potential.

Spicy but Brendan’s voice was terrible

Lots of spice in the fishing town of Westport. The narrator’s voice for Brendan was so difficult to listen to. It sounded as though she was going for gruff, but landed on monotone

Unexpectedly spicy

Dont be fooled by the cover of this romcom. It is unexpectedly spicy and I was surprised to enjoy Piper as a main character. Brendan is a rough seaman with a heart of gold. Very much enjoyed the narration and a good story.

Sigh

How is this being turned into a movie???
*confused frown*
I loved this story but it felt like it was lacking some structural bones. The character development was good but it felt forced and predictable for both main characters. The sex scenes... um... eh. It could have been executed better I feel. One thing I will always remember, I read somewhere once that no matter how good your plot, characters, character development, plot twists etc are, people will remember your sex scenes the most for either good or bad reasons. For me, the "dirty talk" especially was too conversational for the actual act of sex and when it was "dirty talk", it was crass and over the top, over done. For a man that doesn't say much, he sure had a lot to say in the bedroom *cringe*
I liked the characters, the story over all was good... just lacking some teeth sinking meat in the bones of the story, a little more careful time spent during meaningful conversations would have made it feel less rushed and more real.
Overall, I didn't exactly hate it. Good light hearted read, just needed to feel less rushed.
The ending was predictable.
