The distinguished historian Omer Bartov was born on a kibbutz, grew up in Tel Aviv, and served in the Israel Defense Forces during the Yom Kippur War. He went on to become a leading scholar of the German army and the Holocaust, before turning his attention to his native country.

Fails to deliver on premise - repeats same points over and over

Based on the title one might think this is a story about what went wrong in Israel. Instead it reads like the same op-od repeated over and over and over again. We get it Bartov: the Holocaust does not justify Israel's present actions in Gaza. You could have made this point and then taught us about Israeli history, as the title promises. Instead, this books reads like a long rant from an elderly drunk.
