Crisis

No plan ever survives contact with the enemy.

Especially when you can't be certain which side is your enemy.

Nalyn Ila did her best to lay plans for every imaginable contingency. But some contingencies were not imaginable. Now Ila has no choice but to change her plans as fast as she can, trying to stay one step ahead of disaster. Without Syova's help, everything she has tried to achieve will certainly fail.

Now that everyone’s secret plans have been revealed, Syova has no choice but to reassess everything he knows about his enemies—and his friends. The Ubezhishche people haven't yet gone to war with Elysium... not quite. Now devastating war may be unavoidable. Unless Captain Ila is telling him the truth.

With the survival of both his own people and hers at stake, Syova had better make all the right choices.

A worthy sequel

I was hanging off of the cliff after the first book. I really couldn’t see how the entire story would eventually wrap up, but all of the loose and tangled threads were neatly brought together for a truly satisfying story.

Obsessed with this but ...

Refreshing character development and world-building emerge through witnessing situational relationships in granular detail. The author's style lends a dry verisimilitude that both endears the reader to the characters and unexpectedly raises the stakes of the suspenseful sequences. Both books are fascinating, verging on hypnotic, but I need a character list and a glossary right now! If provided, I will vow allegiance to Captain Ila.

Story of stratagy

This was a great story about a long term strategy and the dynamics of both creating and executing the objectives. The first part had me. The second part dragged on in the end, but got it all completed.

Ubesche are careful with their words

What a gorgeous and immersive story line.
If you enjoy story building and dabble in tactics this is your story. Start with part 1, that’s important. You’ll be more comfortable, it’ll be alright. You’ll do well, you’ll be cared for.

Narrator performance absolutely excellent and complementary to the story :-)

Great conclusion

Solid continuation of mesmerizing first book. Narrator was fabulous. No spice in the book but the last 30 seconds could have used just a little.
