Publisher's summary

Ladies of London’s High Society are known for their social graces and poise. Vivian Kirby boasts neither of these enviable qualities, though she does offer impressive conversation on chemical compositions. Unfortunately, it appears that not many men want a brilliant wife. So it is that Vivian finds kinship with a group of young women who embrace each other’s differences: The Blue Orchid Society.

After an extended stay in China, Lord Benedict has returned transformed to his family’s estate, where an encounter with Vivian, whose scientific knowledge he once undermined, leaves him determined to make amends. He arranges to help forward her research - anonymously, of course. Through letters, Vivian establishes a warm friendship with her secret benefactor, even as she’s unexpectedly drawn into a murder investigation that forces her to work alongside Benedict to unearth the truth. Soon, Vivian fears she may be falling in love with two men, never suspecting that they are one and the same.

enjoyable

Not a goofy romance. Thank you. But has romance. The Chinese accent needs a Chinese accent. Chuckle. Often sounds French.

A unique romance and mystery

Vivian and Benedict were an intriguing couple. As indicated later in the book, they are a case of opposites attract. Vivian is brilliant to the point of almost seeming to potentially have Asperger’s. She finds it difficult to have social interactions because of the topics that she tends to bring up in conversation. Benedict had slighted Vivian In their youth in a way that has affected her through the years.

Circumstances leave them together but Vivian is still hesitant to trust Benedict. In a secretive way he helps her achieve long-held goals and ultimately they are involved in solving a crime together.

The romance is light but sweet. There were many interesting topics described throughout the book including scientific methods during the industrial revolution as well as insight into Chinese customs as Benedict’s dear friend from China is a big part of the storyline.

Definitely enjoyable book as well as a very good audible narration.

Well written. Story line flowed at a nice pace. I looked forward to hearing or reading the first book in the Blue Orchid series, Solving Sophronia.

A Great Listen

I really enjoyed this book! Benedict and Vivian were so fun to read about. I also enjoyed the science and learning about the Chinese culture.

This is the first book I've listened to by this narrator and she did awesome!
