Publisher's summary

What if you could live your life in partnership with divinity, using your intuition as your guide? According to Clarissa Pinkola Estes, Ph.D., and Caroline Myss - such a life is possible.

In fact, it is the life that mystics have chosen throughout history, and only one thing is required: the willingness to completely surrender to divine instruction. Now Caroline Myss and Dr. Estes - two of the country's leading intuitives and bestselling authors - are together for the first time on audio with Intuition and the Mystical Life.

Intuition and the Mystical Life

I was reluctant to get the book due to the somewhat negative reviews, but my passion to hear the two ladies won - and I regret NOT buying the book earlier- they are awesome, they have beautiful poetry going back and forth between them while talking about women's intuition. I love this material, already listened to it three times. I recommend it. And I think the presentation transcends nationality and religion, as it speaks to the soul as well as the mind.

A little "precious" for my taste.

Ivory Tower Mysticism?

I like both Myss, and Pinkola-Estes; however togther.. not so much.
I felt like I was listening in on a mutual admiration love fest, and mysticism was secondary. I expected this book to have more substance, and relevence to the average person but it came across as cliquish.

"Intuition for well off women who were raised by perfect parents"

Both women went to Catholic school, neither are First Nations, and because *they* were not abused, are completely dismissive of the atrocities that occured within the auspices of
the Catholic Church.
I expected more from them.

Juxtapositions

It was interesting to me that I began to compare the responses and dialogue between Myss and Estes. I couldn’t resonate with Carolyn Myss. The more I listened, the more I felt this way. She seemed opinionated and her tone felt like she was scolding and judging women. Clarissa Pinkola Estes was such a big contrast to her. Her stories and narrative seemed to be more empowering of women. Myss talked about ego and intuition in ways that made me feel ego was bad and that intuition was better served in silence and invisibility. Women’s voices have been shut down for eons and they have been invisible in so many ways. There is nothing wrong if they want to be seen and heard and for the world to know aloud that a woman follows her intuition,. This is not egotistical. I give Estes five stars and Myss, just one.

Powerful Duo!

Clarissa Pinkola-Estes has long been my favorite guide to archetypes, how they may apply in our life stories, and Jungian Psychology. She & Caroline Myss have just filled in questions I've had in full Technicolor. This was an excerpt from a larger work on balancing chakras that I am looking forward to finding and listening to. I am now looking forward to listening to more of Caroline's works too.

Not as excited about this as I thought I would be

Any additional comments?

I have a fundamental issue with what Caroline Myss says regarding therapy. She claims that women go to therapy to unravel deep seeded psychological issues in order to develop intuition, but really intuition comes from self-esteem. I can't speak for everyone, but myself and many other women I know go to therapy to unravel the deep seeded issues that keep us from loving ourselves and keep us from having higher self esteem. So, I find her comments about intuition not being found in therapy quite erroneous.

Two Amazing Women

This book has become my FAVORITE of ALL time!! Heartwarming, inspirational, educational, and so full of knowledge. This book has helped me to understand several things about myself, that I have struggled with, and even fought with myself about, denied myself of, and at times have beaten myself up about. I no longer have to search for answers that I have been wanting and needing to find my entire life.. Thank you both for the warmth that exudes from your bodies and minds that it seems so effortless, your voices are both so soothing and melt words, like butter used to make the bread, in the final story.. Deeply touching!

Deeply touching and enlightening in a very gentle feminine way. No abstracts. Only solid examples of how the Spirit works through Matter.

Intuition or Judgement?

Judgement is rampant through this book. Didn't learn much about intuition but learned so much about all the "shoulda" around developing intuition!

Full of wisdom

This extended conversation between these two women is such a gift. Timeless and full of wisdom. I have already listened to it twice, and imagine it’s something I will keep coming back to for the important lessons it offers. I’m very grateful that someone thought to record this beautiful exchange from two of mr favorite women and teachers.

a beautiful, enrichening sharing between 2 of the most insightful & nurturing wise women of our times

this shared interview between Caroline & Clarissa of how they discovered & tap into their uniquely given ways of walking through & in different worlds is alive & full of wisdom. The wonderful blend of Caroline's incisive navigation & the melody of Clarissa's voice like a cradling sea, takes the listener to that other shore they've wanted to reach.

I particularly enjoyed almost eavesdropping on how the 2 came to some incredible new self-realzations, & stories shared about special times with grandmothers & nuns.
Their words spoke to me directly in the place I now find myself...such is its special quality & that or the 2 women
I don't think I need to recommend it as this will find those who need to listen to it by itself!

I love Clarissa, but couldn't finish this

I didn't know Myss before listening to this. Her attitude in this audiobook is insufferable: preachy, judgemental, negative. Her voice rises a lot, and even though she doesn't shout, it is such a stark contrast to Clarissa's velvety murmurs.
I felt as though Clarissa kept trying to bring nuance and softness to the conversation but it went way above Myss's head. At some point, Myss tells Clarissa how she could just put her feet up and listen to Clarissa's stories forever. I really wish she'd done that, so I could have enjoyed and absorbed Clarissa's folkloric wisdom. I've listen to many of Clarissa's books and loved them. This is the first I couldn't finish.

Fascinating conversation for now and the future

I loved this conversation between two wise women of our age. I noticed it exactly when I needed to take on board its messages. The combination of spiritual teachings, Clarissa's injection of story metaphors, and Carolyn's parallels combined to make a moving cocktail from which each individual listener will take their own lessons. I will listen to this again and again, and gain new insights from it each time. Definitely worth investing in!

Wisdom with two women

It took a while before I was ready to understand and really listen to what these wise women are discussing together in this unique recorded conversation. My only issue is that I wish it were longer or there were more episodes of the conversation!

Loved listening to these women

What an honor to listen to this conversation and one I will re-listen to many times. In World in need of elder guidance — here are two women who can rightly call themselves elders with wisdom to share.

If only we could edit out Caroline Myss.

It’s always a pleasure and honour to hear Dr E speak. This is a conversation between Clarissa Pinkola Estes and Caroline Myss. There are some true pearls of wisdom in here but I found Caroline Myss’s constant interruption and harsh voice horribly grating. She might be a writer but she’s not a great speaker and she’s a terrible interviewer. I was bothered by her profound white lady American privilege, her hyperbolic language and sweeping generalisations & many of her statements were contradictory, confusing & overly authoritative. At one point she says to Dr Estes “I could listen to you telling stories all day” and I wish she would. DrEs nuanced & graceful responses are beautiful. This is the only DrE book that I’ve marked less than 5 stars, for this reason.

Utterly superb until...religion!

Having read and listened to so much of Ms Esteves works, I was thoroughly enjoying and deeply engrossed in this reading until religion reared up into both orators words. In this ever evolving and growing world the ways and views of organised religions has to be reigned in. The lack of knowing how to utter a prayer is not the ‘sin’ the ‘sin’ is firmly believing a ‘parent’ has been neglectful by not teaching their child a prayer or how to pray. If the second part of this reading had not been so laced with ‘god’ and religion I would have enjoyed this reading and embraced far more than I did. Her shock at the, not knowing how to pray, is nothing compared to my shock that the lack of prayer would shock her.

A souls journey of sweetness in remembering

I thoroughly enjoyed the dialogue between Clarissa and Caroline in teaching on these themes. Their own experiences, their validation of self and each other and the advise on how to nurture our children.
I will be listening again and again.
