Publisher's summary

Before he became Shadow, he was just Sean.

Though to the media, the FBI, and a hundred police agencies he was The New Jersey Devil, The Steel Samurai, The Saint Louis Slaughter, and dozens more. These stories are the tales of how Sean learned discipline and the martial arts skills that have served him so well: from his time in college, where a series of accidents leads to him finding his sensei, to his life at Boston Implantables as one of their most gifted and inspired engineers, to becoming one of the more successful serial killers of the superhero era. The tell the story of how he honed his hunting skills while growing his rare gift, up until that fateful moment where a not-so-innocent secretary convinces him to change his ways.

This collection is divided into three sections. The first covers his college days, where he learns how to use his gifts. The second is his time living in Boston, where he slowly begins to follow the path of most avengers into darker and darker behavior. The third are a few bonus stories.

Please note: the college stories that you'll hear in Into the Dark were originally published in print under the title Shadow at College. While not all that explicit, a lot of people die in this book, and Sean (aka Shadow) kills most of them.

Surprisingly good

At first, I didn’t think a series of short stories about a character that was replicated to single novel was going to be all that good, but it turned out to be an excellent book.

Shadow is just The character that can do no wrong

Shadow book gets released, I buy audiobook, I stay up to listen to it twice, I listen to the original again. That will happen anytime more shadow stories arrive. Shadow is just fun, in the strangest ways in my case and has become literary comfort food.
That being said, I want a full Johnny 2fer story, you can't drop a few lines & move on with the nye invulnerable maniac who likes cats... That is whining not complaining just an fyi.
Yes I enjoyed this book, yes I recommend constantly & I paused Sanderson when I saw this!

its like a correction installment

a good story is the simple truth. the narration is good, keeps the feel of the story consistent. This is a prosective story for the first. the spicy parts are not there like the last. Its more of a coming of age and how this started title. the 1.5 mark is more of a 0..25
to start and ends with a 1.25. it puts the before and after into light. but really this bad ass MC has more to do. I hope.

There’s more to the story!

I was thrilled to find a new book book in the cat’s world. I always thought it was just a one off. This book goes into how he became the cat. Earlier life, training, hunting.

Great

Great prequel to Shadow. It covers the time between high school and the start of Shadow. (plus some extra shorts)
