Family Alcoholism Desperation in Addiction

As a person in recovery I felt that this book really puts you in the shoes of it's characters. Alcoholism is an allergy of the body & obsession of the mind triggered by the use of drink or drug. Co-Alcoholism is the addiction of the abuser/addict/alcoholic . if you want a real story that will help you see what it is like to be caught up in a family controlled by the disease of Alcoholism READ THIS BOOK !!!!!!

I felt like I was on a roller coaster of Addiction

The best part was the end hearing the real voices and conversation with 2 of the authors!sad, intoxicating, depressing, but hope and success were achieved.

Honest Truth

Thank you for putting your journey to pen and paper. It's hard reality, but more common than society wants to admit. This shares the pain of all those in and around addiction & yet gives hope. There is always hope.

Tragic, heartbreaking, real

It's heartbreaking and frustrating, like dealing with addicts in real life. These were great performances.

Frustrating

The writing is fine, as is the acting. So why only 3 stars? It’s personal. This just isn’t my story. I feel for these people, but I struggled to relate or understand and that made it an unpleasant listen for me. For people interested in this subject, I guess I recommend it. I learned something about myself: I don’t want to read books about addiction.

Spot On

The author must have some history with family addiction or her research was impeccable. My son is a heroin addict and while I cursed the woman for her codependent idiocy, I recognized myself over the years. Excellent book, despite the fact that I sobbed my way through it. I still wait for my phone call.

Incredible

If you ever wanted to be a fly on the wall to seeing what an addiction does to a person and or family. Pay attention to this book.

Frustrating

ZERO sympathy for the mom. ZERO ZERO ZERO! I've never encountered a more wretched character. I only continued listening to the end to see who or how many would bite it.

Very resl

Initially, I wondered if I should keep listening. This account is one of the more real versions, of the catastrophic impact of addiction on a family & their lives. I found myself judging the mother & then found myself wondering if I was living her life...no place for judgement here. I loved it was a middle class educated family narrative. Drugs impact every class. Not so many books written from this perspective. I think this is well written, superbly acted & well worth the listen.

Well acted and profound!

As with all audible originals, this is superbly acted and narrated. Emilia Fox is a fantastic actress and Tom Glenister's portrayal of Simon is full of true emotion and feeling as the twin brother of NIck. As a twin myself I can understand the bond between them and how difficult it can be for others to comprehend this.
There are lots of special moments, but also some heart rending scenes that I wouldn't want any mother do experience. The true story depicts two youg adults spiralling into addiction and the mother's struggle to get them out of it.
A hard but very enjoyable listen about real issues that could potentially happen to any family.
The last 5 minutes are an interview with the real life people that this was about. Make sure you listen to this as it bought tears to my eyes.........

One of the best books I have EVER heard

I have to write a review here and now .. I’ve just finished listening to this book over two days ... so brilliantly written and performed... as a person in Recovery I identified all the way through .. I hit rock bottom and went in to treatment .. I love my life today and I know how hard and life-changing drink and drugs can alter lives, hopes and dreams. I send love and thanks to the whole team involved .. especially the family .. thank you for your truth .. I was so touched by your story and I still have deep emotion milling around as I write this xxxxx

Just amazing

Heartbreaking story. Just shows how difficult addiction is and can totally see how the relationship between these identical twins spurred on their addiction. Elizabeth was amazing, I could not have dealt with the situation at all, and even Tony for hanging in there. The book was written so well. Emilia Fox and cast were also amazing.

Brilliant!

Brilliant first book to listen to. Being a twin myself it it helped me understanding the dynamics of a twin brother relationship to really feel like I was experiencing their journey with them! Powerful read, great book.

An excellent read

Oh my gosh. What a compelling book. I was expecting a book but it was actually a production which really brought the story to life. There wasn't one character I didn't feel some empathy for even when I was etting angry with the twins for their weakness and their mother for putting her own life and marriageat risk. It was actually true to life, an accurate account of the way some families are forced into the underworld of drugs in an attempt to help the addicted. Well written, well portrayed and bloody emotional. I would have liked to know if the twins mother was still married to Tony. My testament to a good book is when I'm trying to work out when I can get my next listen in.
