Publisher's summary

After his invalid father dies in Tennessee, Inman Lowe sells the farm and heads to Montana to find his older brother. When he finally finds him, Garvis is secretly mixed up with a group of thieves. Two of the bank robbers are caught and falsely tell the sheriff that Inman is also involved. At his brother’s advice, he runs and ends up being mistaken for the expected new sheriff in a small town.

Being caught off guard, Inman goes along with the ruse, thinking it’s a good way to hide. He tries to be reclusive, but when he starts to fall for the storekeeper’s daughter, things get rough. Why did he have to meet the woman of his dreams when he was living a lie?

Excellent Narration

Inman was in the wrong place, with his brother saying that he was involved also. Inman ran into a town that mistake him for the new sheriff, how could he now say the law was after him. To fall in love at the worse possible time. Mayhem and enjoyment await in this delightful audio with good narrative

Truth is Best

Great story and a wonderful narrator. Inman just wanted to find his older brother and give him his share of the farm, but he found trouble and his brother. As he travels, he finds a nice town, but is mistaken for the new sheriff. He should’ve come clean, then, but decided against it. When he meets Amelia, he is smitten, but doesn’t tell her the truth, either. Sooner or later, Inman must tell the truth, but his time just ran out. Will Amelia forgive him for the lie or walk away. Inman can only hope for the best.

Even the little lies can cause trouble

Inman is a hard-working and honest man, but when his brother and his brother's accomplices cause trouble, he gets himself in a "pickle" when he doesn't trust God with his life. He is forced to continue living the lie. Like all "little lies" he keeps adding to the problem when he takes the job as the sheriff and marries Amelia. Because he hasn't been honest about what happened with his brother, he doesn't reveal the truth until everything comes crashing down on him. That is so much like our lives. We happily bump along until something happens that causes us to get back on track.

Christian Historical Romance

I have been reading and listening to Janice's books for several years! she's always been talented, but I think this audiobook is her best yet! Her story is intriguing, interesting, and intricate! Her narrator did an outstanding job, and the complete ensemble is practically perfect! I have been reading and listening to Janice's books for several years! Honesty is the best policy

Inman is in the wrong place at the wrong time and ends up running from the law even though he has done nothing illegal. He thinks he has found the perfect place to hide in plain sight. He doesn't correct the town mayor when he thinks Inman is the Sheriff they have been waiting for. But dishonesty leads to problems as Inman finds out. It nearly costs him everything--his love, his friends, his job. his reputation. This book has adventure, action, romance and a good illustration of what consequences dishonesty can cause. Wonderful story!

The narration was good, with distinct voices for the characters helping to keep track of the story.

Forgiveness

This was a clean western style historical romance that left me feeling good. Even though forgiveness was given, the characters involved still had consequences for their choices, just like in real life. There was a happy ending and the story was told realistically.
