A weapon of unimaginable power. A desperate mission to the center of the galaxy. Mankind's fate hangs in the balance.

Since becoming a starship captain, Thomas Holbrook has worried he might someday draw a one-way mission. When he receives orders to divert his CentCom warship to the center of the galaxy, a region from which no vessel has ever returned, he comes face-to-face with his greatest fear.

It’s the year 2330. The “aughts,” robots that warred for independence from mankind, seek insurance against the ever-present human threat. An aught ship speeds to the galactic center for material to build a weapon that could destroy the Earth. Holbrook can’t allow the aughts to create a planet-killing bomb. He enlists the help of Dr. Rebekah Riesen, a brilliant physicist with her own reasons for joining a mission that may not return, and Tentek, an aught informant who might be a double agent. Together, can they keep a mutinous crew at bay, stop the aughts at the center of the galaxy, and somehow find a way back home?

What do you get when you mash Star Trek (especially Star Trek V) with Battlestar Galactica? This book. You get this book!

Ridiculous speeds to get in and out of our galaxy within days? Yes!

Hanging out near a black hole? Yes!

Time dilation? Nah….

I believe this is the author’s first book. Hopefully, he’ll fine tune the craft and the science in science fiction for his subsequent works.

What started off interesting, dragged. The characters were all flat with bad narration. I wanted to like this more but it was high on the sci-fi cliches and low on quality.

No likable characters and bad voice narration

Forced diversity. A navy crew that is ready to betray each other at any moment. Which is not believable. A scooby doo esque sequence where a lady gets a pep talk from a conveniently placed note from an officer who would never have cared enough to write it. It wasn’t bad enough to turn off. And a penis joke for no reason. But it really needed more thought. A sanity check.

It was about twice as long as it needed to be. The story, not the penis joke. But that went on too long too.

Just not good
