Publisher's summary

A young girl whose father died before her eyes. A veteran haunted by his past misdeeds.
As the world burns down around them, they will be forced to wok together - or succumb to the flames.

The #1 best-selling and most prolific post-apocalyptic author Mike Kraus - working with best-selling author Justin Bell - brings a new gripping tale of destruction, survival and humanity like no one else can.

A new blend of metals was promised to be stronger and last longer than traditional steel ever could - until it started breaking down into hyper-combustible byproducts.

Thousands of miles of pipelines go up in an instant, their chain reactions setting off fires that destroy cities, crumble buildings and reduce the civilized world to ash.

As the survivors pick through the ruins of their world, one mother will stop at nothing to rescue her children - even if that means traversing the country to find them.

Meanwhile, deep in the Everglades, protected from the destruction ravaging the world by his guilt and penance, one man will hold the salvation of a young girl in the palm of his hand.

*****

The story line is great

The overall writing is great, but the virtual voice reader completely ruins it for me. Stop using virtual readers as there is no understand of the context relayed with virtual. Wrong pronounciation of words, Emphasis on the words necessary to relay the meaning of the dialogue is wrong 75% of the time. Flat, monotone delivery. If this is the way Audible is going with their program, I won’t be able to continue to use the app. It is distracting and awful. It ruined a book that I normally would have loved!

The story is interesting. Worst narration I’ve ever heard

The story and idea wasn’t bad. When I say this is bad narration, it’s underselling how terrible it was. It says that it was narrated by “virtual voice” so I’m assuming that is some kind of AI like Siri… imagine listening to Siri read you an entire book… this was infinitely worse
