Fantastic preparation for first visit to india

A great reminder that the British Empire was just a pimple in Indian history. When we were making stone circles they had cities and writing!

An amazing resource for curious travelers

The author and reader have done an incredible service for people traveling to the region or just trying to understand our world. The coverage of this 5000 years of history is efficient yet fascinating. His mentions of art and architecture will give meaning to places one might visit or are mentioned in other histories. The reader is a hero of clear annunciation and the pacing of a sentence. I’m actually listening to it twice in succession to get more of a grasp on some of the more complicated kingdoms and subjects and to give me an idea of what to study with more detail.

The Best book on India I've ever read or listened to

1. Extremely thorough. Delves not just into the story, but also how the story was pieced together using scant data for ancient India
2. Great narrator. Often has trouble pronouncing hard indian words, but he did his best.
3. High quality sentences and figures of soeecj

not for a first exposure

I felt lost most of the time. I must say it's due to my own ignorance. The book isn't necessarily trying to tell the history of India as a story, but as a list of dates, names and occurrences. I dates are only important in context to other dates, names are only important if you already know the character or will soon learn more of them, and occurrences only matter when they are a result of other actions or they lead to more activity. Not often did I feel the connection between the dots till the very end of the book.

British View of South Asia

An attempt to summarize vast history of India, the narrator makes almost no attempt to correctly pronounce the words. J is pronounced as Y in yellow and in J as in joker for the same word a few minutes apart from each other. Later history continues the shallow narrative of western newspapers and fails to grasp the nuances of changes in India global ambitions.
