Publisher's summary

A Wall Street Journal bestselling series.

Clues to a hidden treasure. Clues to a family secret. Both lead to murder in a twisting novel of suspense by Amazon Charts and Wall Street Journal bestselling author Kendra Elliot.

A national treasure hunt with a $2 million prize has driven obsessed fortune seekers to overrun the small town of Eagle’s Nest, Oregon. The hunt’s cryptic clues and the lure of wealth have exposed the desperate side of human greed: theft, fights, trespassing—and even the motive to kill. Police chief Truman Daly craves peace in his town but has a murder on his hands instead. Now the big prize isn’t the only thing hiding in the pines. So is a killer.

When a young boy walks into the local café and claims his mother and baby sister have been missing for weeks, FBI special agent Mercy Kilpatrick investigates and exposes a disturbing twist in his story. Deep family secrets and lies that started sixty years ago have burst into the present, bringing with them deadly consequences.

Mercy’s and Truman’s investigations lead down a path of murder, revenge, and buried secrets to uncover two intertwined mysteries as dark as an Oregon forest.

“Elliot skillfully interweaves the various plot threads, and credible, mostly sympathetic characters match the lovingly described locale. Fans of contemporary regional mysteries will be rewarded.” Publishers Weekly

Another great book from Kendra Elliot

I love Mercy Kilpatrick books. I enjoyed that she was not the only key player in this story. Very balanced.the

I Love these books!

The mysteries written by Kendra Elliott and Melinda Leigh are so fun to read. I love the characters they develop. Mercy is definitely one of my favorites. It makes me feel the need to experience the part of Oregon described by Ms. Elliott.

Amazing

THIS REVIEW IS FOR BOTH THE AUDIOBOOK AND EBOOK VERSIONS
I love these characters and I am anxious for book 4. The narration was wonderfully preformed. It's a great thrilling story and I recommend this book.

It’s always about the money!

Treasure hunters invade the small Oregon town that is home to Police Chief Truman and his wife, FBI agent, Mercy Kilpatrick. When one of the treasure hunters is found dead, Truman and Sheriffs deputy, Evan , team up. To make things even more interesting, Evan learns that his long lost sister is truly missing and has left her kids to find him. Now Mercy is on THAT case… but can she keep them safe from whomever is involved in their parents disappearance? Lots of action that keeps you engrossed in the story.

Mercy is back

Was so happy to have Mercy Kiipatrick and Truman Daly back in my life. This was a great story with two mysteries to solve. Just enough mayhem to keep you drawn to the story and guessing. I do hope we see more books with Mercy and Truman. Well done.

Abrupt Ending

Was this a treasure hunt, suspense, thriller, romance, or all of the above.?

It felt like there were a lot of moving parts to this book. The story was interesting, and there were a number of secrets uncovered.

Although Truman, Mercy, Ollie, and Kaley were part of the story, this book seemed to focus on introducing more about Evan's character.
I thought the story was decent but felt like it ended very abruptly.

treasure hunt with a twist

The reality of the story made it fun. Families fall apart sometimes, love, money, reconciliation. And a good murder, great story!

Evan's backstory?

Loved the story: from a treasure hunt to newly found family. I had expected another mystery for Mercy and Truman to resolve (thank you, treasure hunters galore), but I didn't expect a story heavily involving Evan Bolton.
Not too fond of the oration: sometimes the male sounded more like a female.
