Publisher's Summary

A bloodthirsty sheriff is terrorizing a small Texas town where justice has been buried with his victims. Until Nameless arrives - a vigilante whose past is a mystery and whose future is written in blood.

Anyone who crosses Sheriff Russell Soakes is dead, missing, or warned. One of them is a single mother trying to protect her children but bracing herself for the worst. Nameless fears the outcome. He’s seen it in his visions. Now it’s time to teach the depraved Soakes a lesson in fear. But in turning predators into prey, will Nameless unearth a few secrets of his own?

From #1 New York Times bestselling author Dean Koontz comes In the Heart of the Fire, part of Nameless, a riveting collection of short stories about a vigilante nomad, stripped of his memories and commissioned to kill. Follow him in each story, which can be read or listened to in a single sitting.

Great short stories!

These short stories are great. A man with amnesia who uses different names but is otherwise nameless. He has visions of hideous futures that sometimes he can change, other times he cannot. Either way , he is a.vigilante and anyone he sets his sights on should beware of that prickly feeling when you know someone is on to you. But don’t take it seriously enough to change.
Edoardo Ballerini does a wonderful job narrating.
This novella has my HIGHEST RECOMMENDATION.
There are six of these short stories. All are free to borrow with the kindle unlimited edition.

Disturbing & Excellent

As always, Dean Koontz weaves a story that keeps you from beginning to end. I loved the narrator! He made me forget I was listening to a book. I was concerned this book was too graphic for my taste but Koontz allows you to wait for the justice despite the wickedness. I think we all crave a good "they got what they deserved" story! Amazing! Thank you

Good Short Entries -Free Audible

This is a pretty good entry for Koontz. Enough suspense to keep me interested. Also, likable characters and strong plot. Very good narration.

Also, when you borrow the book from Amazon, click on the buy audible for 0, and you get the audio selection for free permanently. It becomes a part of your audible library even after you return the book to Amazon. Just a perk for Prime members. This offer may not be around forever.

In the Heart of the Fire
Nameless, Book 1
By: Dean Koontz
Narrated by: Edoardo Ballerini
Nameless deals with a corrupt Sheriff and associate. Dozens of missing people, mostly young girls, have gone missing since the Sheriff came into power. Great story and narration.

Perfect length!

This was the perfect length to listen to while I made dinner tonight. Good pacing and suspense, and I like the main character. Nameless has visions of the past and future, and the bad guy in this story really gets what is coming to him.

In the Heart of the Fire

The story was good just as all Dean Koontz books and novels are, the biggest problem is the narrative. This narrator was very monotoned and foolish is some of the accents and girl type tones and quotes. Thus making it very hard to listen to and honestly, I won't be listening to another of his narratives. When one reads, even silently there is a certain sound that resonates through each story, this tone destroyed that for me.

Great stories with the perfect narrator..

Each book is wonderfully written.
You don't need the whole series as each book stands tall on it's own.
If you can buy them all it is well worth it.
I highly recommend them !!!

Interesting plot but way too short

It was an interesting story and very easy to read through, I've finished it in less than an hour. However, I feel that the whole book is really short and more details could've been given about the characters and their background. Great performance of the reader, his voice is clear, with no difficult accent or boring, emotionless flow.
