Publisher's summary

A forensic psychologist fights a mental war against two serial killers in this disturbing thriller from Mike Omer, Washington Post and Amazon Charts bestselling author of A Killer’s Mind.

An online video of a girl clawing at the ceiling of her own grave could be the worst thing FBI forensic psychologist Zoe Bentley has ever seen. Perhaps even more disturbing is the implication of the video’s title: “Experiment Number One.”

Zoe and her partner, Special Agent Tatum Gray, work as fast as they can to find the monster behind the shocking video, but soon another one shows up online, and another girl turns up dead. Meanwhile, a different murderer is on Zoe’s mind. Rod Glover has been tormenting her since childhood, and his latest attack is a threatening photo of himself with Zoe’s sister. As Glover’s threats creep toward action, Zoe’s torn between family and duty.

Zoe must think fast to prevent another murder. With her own family’s safety on the line, Zoe feels she’s never been in more danger. And while she’s always known her job could send her to an early grave, she always assumed she’d be dead first.

Outstanding novel with fantastic narration!

There are many novels narrated by Brittany Pressley in my Audible library. All of her narrations are good, but she really excels with IN THE DARKNESS. I'm a fan of author Mike Omer and all of his audio books are in my Audible library. IN THE DARKNESS is yet another 5 star thriller.

Excellent!!! Excellent!! Excellent!!!!

Holy cow!! This, the second in the series, is even better than the first. It's intense - I had to pause and take some deep breaths during the claustrophobic moments, but hurried back because the suspense was killing me!! Zoe and Tatum are such superb characters, and I just can't say enough about Omer's writing ability. Wow!!! Scattered throughout are a few perfectly placed snippets of humorous relief, provided by Marvin - and the poor hiccuping guy. I'm proud to say that I had most of it solved, but there were still some crazy twists. Brittany Pressley, as always, is amazing, and I wouldn't want anyone but her telling me these stories. (I wish she narrated his other books. I tried his other series, but hated the narration.) Can't wait for the next one!!!

What's the Deal With Brittany Pressley

First time I've written a review about a reader. So what's the deal here? Did someone at the publishing house owe Pressley a book? Did she say to someone... "Hey! I've been working on a cool Boston accent... y'wanna' hear it?" Was there no one else in the Green Room when this Omer novel needed to be read?

"When they start reviewing the scenery," the adage goes, "The play's in trouble." When the actor stands out because of an unintended and weirdly erratic speech impairment... The play's in trouble. And that's how Boston is mouthed by Pressley: which is like an occasional and unpredictable speech challenge that appears mid sentence from time to time, snapping the listener out of the story line to mentally stare at the actress. Meantime the plot continues on and big pieces of it are missed as the listener's distracted away.

So, what's the deal with Brittany Pressley? How'd she get AND KEEP this gig? She did a useful job in reading Omer's "A Killer's Mind" which I enjoyed. So? Did that get her a pass around the lines of auditioning readers that might have fit this Omer work? Did the book's audio director take long lunches during her reading this book? So, what's the deal with Brittany Pressley?Enquiring minds want to know.

Girls Just Want to Have Fun!

I don't know where to start. Except to ask if I could get Marvins phone number? Please tell me this is the not precursor to the last of Zoe, Tatum, Andrea and least of all Marvin. Not to mention Freckle and that bastard Timothy. This one REALLY had me awake all night. Started it at bedtime, Big mistake. I drifted once but rewound and freaked myself out all over again. I unfortunately have a serious fear of dark places and discovered during the attempt at an MRI, key word Attempt, that I was also highly claustrophobic as well. In the Darkness pushed all my psychological aingst buttons. Loved it, scared the... well you can profile what it scared out of me. Great sequel to A Killers Mind, ravenously awaiting the next chapter. Brittany Pressley is an incredibly talented narrator, her voice brought each character to life sending chills and laughter accordingly. Mike Omer is an outstanding writer. His mix of tension and comic relief wonderfully spread throughout. Please bring us claustrophobic night owls more of your twists and freaks. I enjoyed every second and now I'm going to play it again on my television app. In the light of day. I can't recommend this audiobook strongly enough. JPW

Fantastic narration. Fantastic book.

Brittany Pressley is one of the most gifted narrators I’ve heard in a long while. Her depiction of Marvin keeps me in stitches long after the scenes are over. Kudos to Mike Omer for another great Bentley book. Love the characters, the storyline, the writing. Great stuff all the way around. Highly recommend.

Just Amazing

This book, like the last, is a page-turner. Mike Omar is quickly becoming one of my favorite authors. we pick up where we left off in the first book. with trying to catch Rod Glover and Andrea's personal problems with him. Throw in a serial killer on the loose in Texas and you have a terrific book. There were a few I needed details but nothing that made me want to read the book less. I just can't wait for the next one

Fantastic sequel

The Zoe Bentley books are one of the best series I’ve read in a long time. The story line is gripping and unpredictable and the performances really absorb you into it. Would absolutely recommend.

Great 2nd book in series

Really enjoyed the second instalment and have already started the third. Brittanys narration is always good and sometimes her male voices make me smile. I’m fully enveloped in the world of Zoe and Tatum.

Great book and narration.

Really enjoyed this second instalment. I like the fact it continues on with the Glover storyline from book 1 while also focusing in on a new case.

Fantastic story, great narration, couldn't put it

In The Darkness is the second book in this already great series by Mike Omer. The narrator is fantastic in her delivery of the story and how she really brings these characters to life, thanks to the splendid way the author work is written. This novel was enthralling, tense and exciting all at the same time and I have felt a range of emotions throughout from sadness to happiness and all those in-between.

The continuation of the story with the same characters whom I have grown to love was a definite bonus. Dr Zoe Bentley and Agent Tatum Grey, two of the main characters that work together to bring a wonderfully crafted story, mixing sadistic killings, police procedures with a psychological angle to get results. The integrations of the comedic trio was a great call by the author, Grandad Marvin with his colourful personality, the crazy cat freckles and the adopted fish Timothy, real laughs on my part. The much needed humour helped to give a lighter touch to an already dark storyline.

I would recommend this book to listen or read. I will definitely be finishing this series.

Good story, great narration

Brittany Pressley could make any book sound good. She is easily in my top 3 narrators on audible. The story is good too - fast paced, good detail and suspense. Glad I stumbled across Mike Omer's books!
