Critic Reviews

"Pomare captivates in this haunting novel, In The Clearing. I was utterly gripped with the stories of Amy and Freya from start to finish, and fascinated by the unexpected way the two came together. Thrilling, atmospheric and with twists abounding, this book held me in its spell long after the final page. A sure-fire bestseller." (Sally Hepworth, best-selling author of The Mother-in-Law)

"A pared-back firecracker where the danger is clear and present - even if its exact shape remains opaque until the book's climax and final gasp-inducing twist." (Books & Publishing, Australia)

"A dark, chilling, atmospheric thriller populated with mysterious and wonderfully flawed characters." (Christian White, author of The Nowhere Child)

Those twists, those characters, mind blowing 🤯

I don’t know how to write a review that won’t spoil it for others. All I will say is you will think you know what’s going on - you will be wrong. You will think you know where it is going - you won’t. You will think you know who to trust - but if you’re like me you will be gobsmacked. An excellent psychological thriller.

amazing!

i have now listened to all 3 of J.P.'s books and they are all completely incredible. twists and turns all the way until the very last sentence! i cant say any more without giving anything away (just like all of my other reviews for his books), but if you like suspense thrillers, i very highly recommend this author! now that i finished this book, i am about to listen to his book Tell Me Lies again, because it was my favorite and i feel that knowing the end will make me view the situations differently. i hope to find other new authors soon who write this way as well.

Too Creepy for me

Can't finish...hours of creepy inner monolog, ick. Don't want that stuff imbedded in my brain.

Excellent story with and excellent end

I'm picky when it comes to stories, especially the ending. So often the end to an otherwise great story is cheesy. They often feel the need to have a character give a long speech explaining every detail to every question. This story is intriguing until the very last word. It toes together the mysteries naturally without absurd speeches. It is filled with twists and turns and intrigue. it's really good. It's well worth the listen.

A horrible protagonist a mediocre story

I would not recommend this to anyone that values good storytelling or relatable characters. Nothing was really accomplished by the books end, but the epilogue somewhat rectified the poor composition.

dark and disturbing-had to stop listening early on

It started out just too disturbing for my taste. Will be trading it in for something a little less upsetting.
