Better than most Milfic sci-fi

Really good aliens, good space navy particulars, interesting world setting. I’d love to read more of these adventures. Very satisfying.

Solid Sci-Fi - but with mystery cliffhanger and no followup book yet!

Like the other reviews have said, this is a solid Sci-Fi novel in the old-school model. Multiple complex characters and events happening in a truly fleshed out universe. Really enjoyed it until I got to the end and realized it's been 5 years and no followup. So expect to be left hanging.

Extraordinary Space Opera, mystery & Adventure!

A fantastic space opera with all the trimmings, epic space battles, deep under the hood on spacecraft and weapons, futuristic culture, and very interesting aliens, this is a very masterful writer and I look forward to more works, great storytelling, and excellent characters!

I wish the author would disengage from the internet and return to writing!

I fell absolutely in love with this book! From the prologue to the cliff hanger, In The Black is engaging and exciting. In many ways it reminds me of The Expanse series, in that it has multiple plot lines happening all at once that eventually converge on each other. It's a space opera with espionage, military tactics, humor, aliens, and more. While In The Black was supposed to be an introductory book to a larger series, sadly the author hasn't written, or published anything in 5 years. Prior to 2020 he published a book a year. A brief search shows that he has fallen down the dangerously rabid and cruel rabbit hole of social media engaging trolls with hate, venom, and threats. Do with that as you wish. Personally, I wish he would step away from the internet and return to writing. I would love to see this series finished and even turned into a TV series on Prime or Netflix.
