In the world of morning television, Rebecca Pandey shines as the charismatic producer and host of an animal programme, but behind the facade, she battles nightmares that refuse to let her rest. Desperate for relief, she turns to a specialist known for unravelling the most perplexing subconscious puzzles.
Out and proud dream therapist Emma Parker feels conflicted when her new client turns out to be her secret celebrity crush. Always professional, she keeps her distance, but their sessions become a struggle once she delves into the realm of Rebecca’s dreams and learns the attraction may not be just one-sided.
Uncovering layers of suppressed emotions and desires, they discover a long-buried truth that challenges Rebecca’s traditional background and turns her world upside-down. Will Rebecca find the strength to defy her family’s expectations and embrace the love she never knew she craved? And will Emma finally find her happily ever after?
‘In Dreams’ weaves a narrative of courage, self-acceptance, authenticity, and the transformative power of dreams.

I enjoyed this relatively low angst, slow burn exploration of identity. Rebecca had a lot to work through, not the least of which was the expectations of her Indian immigrant parents and their heteronormative views. When the therapist relationship ends and their relationship begins, it still moves a bit slowly, mostly due to Emma not wanting to rush Rebecca or to be her trial run. As usual in a Gold book, the sex scenes were great and it made total sense that someone who just came out and found enjoyment in the bedroom for the first time would be rather insatiable.
The narration was good, but I will admit I didn't realize until pretty far in that the book was sent in England because the narrator used American accents.
I received an audio copy of this book directly from the author and am leaving this review voluntarily.

Rebecca Pandey, a charismatic morning television host with a hidden struggle, seeks help from Emma Parker, a dream therapist who turns out to be her secret celebrity crush. The dynamic between Rebecca and Emma is electric, and as their sessions progress, the chemistry between them becomes undeniable. The story beautifully explores Rebecca’s sexual awakening and coming out journey, adding depth to her character as she confronts her traditional background and the expectations placed upon her.
I especially appreciated how Lise Gold addressed the complexities of coming out and embracing one's identity on the queerness spectrum, especially for an Indian woman navigating the nuances of family and cultural expectations. The celebrity romance element added a modern twist, highlighting the challenges and vulnerabilities of being in the public eye in the age of social media.
This was the first time I've listened to a book narrated by Tessa Stavers, and I was impressed by her ability to bring the characters to life with nuance and emotion. Her narration added an extra layer of depth to the story, making the connection between Rebecca and Emma feel even more genuine.
The chemistry between these women was palpable, and the romance was the perfect blend of heartfelt connection and sapphic steam. The author skillfully balanced the emotional weight of the story with moments of lightness and passion, creating an enjoyable and engaging read.
In Dreams is the first book I've read by Lise Gold, and it certainly won't be the last. It’s a story that celebrates love, identity, and the courage to embrace who you truly are, all while delivering a delightful and steamy romance. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a diverse and emotionally resonant sapphic love story.
