One of literary fiction’s most compelling voices, New York Times best-selling author Ian McEwan, has crafted masterful depictions of the human condition in classics such as Amsterdam and Atonement. The seven stories composing In Between the Sheets cast a magical spell, veiling the mundane in an ethereal mist that serves to reveal powerful truths.

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

Yes. This is an early work by McEwan, and you can begin to see the evolution of his oeuvre by reading In Between the Sheets.

What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)

There were seven short stories, so obviously there were seven endings. Some endings were shockers. Others, well, the stories just petered out.

What about Steven Crossley’s performance did you like?

He was very good at acting out different voices. I never had to guess which character I was listening to.

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

The stories would have to be greatly expanded, or else they'd be short films. Some would work as short films; others are so tentative that they simply wouldn't.
