Publisher's summary

A Duchy of Terra spin-off series

The enemy promises conflict and annihilation. Their allies threaten betrayal and devastation. A daughter of Earth raises the call of defiance. And the Imperium has never knelt!

When the Taljzi’s genocidal invasion brought promises of aid from the oldest and greatest of the Core Powers, humanity and the Imperium looked to the Mesharom for salvation. But that salvation turns to ash as the Mesharom demand the surrender of the very weapons that saved the Imperium.

Defiance leaves the Imperium facing the Taljzi without the aide of the galaxy’s wisest race, but with their old enemies the Kanzi at their side, they have no choice but to end this war at any cost.

But Mesharom and Taljzi alike have scattered fire and death across the stars. The Imperial forces under Fleet Lord Harriet Tanaka will need every scrap of firepower and cleverness not only to defeat their enemies...but to find them in the first place.

Great Story... But....

I love the series. The only problem I have with this audio book is that about 1/3 - 1/2 of the way into the audio book the narrators voice started to sound like a warbling old woman with several of the Female characters, even Morgan and she's supported to be young. But other that, a great audiobook and story.

Great story inspite of SJW writing.

Love this series and think this author has an amazing writing style. It can get hard to follow. “Modern” gender pronouns don’t really translate well to an audio book… or in real life. I do appreciate how this author has managed to slowly develop the bond between the terrans and other species with every subsequent book. It feels like a natural progression. Def worth reading.

Book 4 comes out When?

Hillary Huber is an outstanding narrator here. This book is outstanding with battles and contact with aliens.

Solid continuation of the series.

Apparently Glynn Stewart moved from the Dutchy of Terra to the Light of Terra (the daughter) without really making it clear. I loved the Dutchy of Terra. Honestly, these Light of Terra books are not really all that different. Hillary Huber does a great job. I will probably continue the series for however long it goes.

going a bit side-ways

the saga continues, and it is mostly a compelling story. there are some negatives though, which is why the story is only two-star. first, there's a lot of repetition. (yes, there's a really big fleet with lots of capital ships, escort ships, and sentients... i got that the first and second times, and didn't need it reinforced another N times.) second, the authors also wants us to know about the sexual preferences of the protagonists and the supporting human characters, and that diversity in organizations is good. in truth, this doesn't add to either the development of the characters, nor advance the story line. perhaps the thinking is that this provides a good contrast to the antagonists, who are mostly uni-dimensional clones (or an egotistical alien admiral). if we had any character development of the bad guys (we don't even get to hear from one until the very end), then that would be an interesting angle.
