One of America’s most original comedic voices delivers a darkly funny, wryly observed, and emotionally raw account of her year of death, cancer, and epiphany.

In the span of four months in 2012, Tig Notaro was hospitalized for a debilitating intestinal disease called C. diff, her mother unexpectedly died, she went through a breakup, and then she was diagnosed with bilateral breast cancer. Hit with this devastating barrage, Tig took her grief onstage. Days after receiving her cancer diagnosis, she broke new comedic ground, opening an unvarnished set with the words: “Good evening. Hello. I have cancer. How are you? Hi, how are you? Is everybody having a good time? I have cancer.” The set went viral instantly and was ultimately released as Tig’s sophomore album, Live, which sold one hundred thousand units in just six weeks and was later nominated for a Grammy.

Now, the wildly popular star takes stock of that no good, very bad year—a difficult yet astonishing period in which tragedy turned into absurdity and despair transformed into joy. An inspired combination of the deadpan silliness of her comedy and the open-hearted vulnerability that has emerged in the wake of that dire time, I’m Just a Person is a moving and often hilarious look at this very brave, very funny woman’s journey into the darkness and her thrilling return from it.

This is one of those books you just don't want to end. Having Tig be the narrator makes you feel like you were sitting in a room with her while she takes you through the highs and lows of her life. Believe me, she has some very low lows, and some great highs. I've been a Tig fan for quite awhile, now I'm a Tig fan that really knows and loves her.

What this book showed me was how it feels to walk in this one person's shoes. It wasn't heroic. It wasn't a cheerleading session to live life. There weren't even those moments where suspense reigned in a tough life-changing decision.
I found it honest and naked - which aren't always beautiful things... and I desperately want them to be - especially when death is on the line.
This is Tig's story as told around the campfire. She allowed me to come along - and I am grateful for the ride.

A masterfully written, brave personal story by one of the funniest comediennes I have ever had the privilege to see.

Funny, heartfelt, wrenching and inspiring!

Tig's story is not new to me but this book was just another way for her to show us all how wonderful she is.

Tig is resilient and inspiring in a dry humor kind of way. She's the best.

I have to admit, I never heard of Tig before, but her story interested me. I can’t believe what she went thru in a short period. After also going thru a cancer diagnosis shortly after losing my mom, I could relate to her feelings. I would definitely see her comedy show; parts were funny, but mostly it dealt with Artois issues.
