Ill-Fated Fortune

De: Jennifer J. Chow

Narrado por: Catherine Ho

Felicity Jin grew up literally hanging onto Moms apron strings in their magical bakery in the quaint town of Pixie, California. Her mothers enchanted baked goods, including puffy pineapple buns and creamy egg tarts, bring instant joy to all who consume them. Felicity has always been hesitant in the kitchen herself after many failed attempts, but a takeout meal gone wrong inspires her to craft some handmade fortune cookies. They become so popular that Felicity runs out of generic fortunes and starts making her own personalized predictions. When one customers ill-fated fortune results in his murder, Felicitys suspiciously specific fortune has the police focusing on her as the main culprit. Now she must find a way to turn her luck around and get cleared from suspicion.

Excellent from beginning to end

An excellent cozy mystery novel that starts off what sounds like it will be a fun series. There's good food, fascinating characters, intriguing crimes, and good resolutions to the story. It's also funny, and there is a wonderful relationship between the main character Felicity and best friend Kelvin. It's possible that they are going to start having feelings for each other...

The narrator is perfect for this book. Great characterization and voices.

First Cozy Book In The Series With A Touch Of Magi

I have enjoyed reading author Jennifer Chow's other series before, so i was glad to discover this new series of 2 books, which mix cozy mystery with some magic.

Felicity is a likeable character, and when she discovered a body , I was ready to sleuth along with her.

Her family tradition of baking fortune cookies with magic predictions are a good base for the story, and it is nice to see how mother and daughter have bonded since the dad left them when Felicity was an infant.

I particularly liked the interactions and descriptions of the bunny!

The ending was nicely done, and the book is a light and enjoyable listen, thanks to narrator Catherine Ho's performance.

I am now listening to book #2: STAR-CROSSED EGG TARTS.

Not for me

I couldn't get into this book. I don't like the main character and I don't think the story was developed enough before the murder occurred. It all seemed forced.
