Publisher's Summary

Jaimie Kelton and Robin Hopkins, the creators and hosts of the popular podcast If These Ovaries Could Talk, realized the world needed to know there was more than one way to make an LGBTQ family. Each of their families came about in different ways, so how many other stories were out there?

Turns out, lots. Inspired, the two friends launched their podcast asking LGTBQ families every question imaginable about their journeys to parenthood. Now the two hosts have written an audiobook based on dozens of interviews to help address recurring questions that came up during their podcast. Is it important to have a child with your genetics? How does one pick a sperm donor? How will you talk to your children about where they came from? And just how does one pay for a baby because rumor has it, it costs a lot?

With insights and stories from guests such as StaceyAnn Chin, Judy Gold, and State Senator Zach Wahls, Jaimie and Robin go humorously in-depth and guide you on a journey that is equal parts funny, serious, happy, sad, celebratory, cautionary, and powerful. You can listen to this audiobook front to back or skip around like your very own LGBTQ choose-your-own-baby-adventure audiobook. You’ll learn a lot and laugh even more along the way! Who knew making a baby could be this much fun?

Excellent LGBTQ family book

As a fan of If These Ovaries Could Talk (ITOCT) I enjoyed listening to the audiobook. Jaimie and Robin talked about their lives and families that has not been fully covered in the show. I enjoyed rehearing the interviews in Jaimie and Robin's voice. This is worth checking out if you are thinking about raising a family or have a family.

All on the same page! Finally!

Thank you for writing this book! My wife and I both read (listened to) it and could finally both have a solid knowledge base for talking with each other about how we want to make a family. Many stories were extremely validating of what we’ve been going through. Reading this made some of the struggles and questions seem more normal vs assuming I (and we as a couple) were just failing at this. I’m also having both my mother in law and mom listen to this so they can have a starting point for asking my wife and I questions and prepare to welcome our eventual children.

Hello Ovaries!

I LOVE the representation in this book! As someone who has already listened to most of the OCT podcasts, I still found this reading to be helpful, informative, and engaging. Definitely would recommend!

Essential listening

I am a wanna be lesbian mum in the UK, who is a fan of the podcast. This was essential listening for me in the early stages of planning my queer family, to gain perspectives on similar and different kinds of families, hear the experiences of my peers and the generations before, and gain insights on their hopes, fears and dreams (which are a lot like mine). I was surprised to find that despite this being American focused, there were also useful insights on the UK context and significant overlap on the specifics of the mechanics and laws around starting a family. Beyond those specifics though, the insights are universally useful for all LGBTQ families and straight or single parent families alike.
