This all-new Star Trek novel celebrates the 60th anniversary of Star Trek: The Original Series—continuing the legacy of Captain James T. Kirk and the crew of the USS Enterprise.

2269: The prospect of peace had seemed unattainable until the assistance of the Federation. Finally, countless ancient enemies have stopped their conflicts simply by listening to one another. On the planet Voyzr, Captain James T. Kirk and his crew aided the planet to realize peace.

2289: Invited to celebrate twenty years of peace, the crew of the USS Enterprise-A is returning to Voyzr as honored guests. Security Chief Pavel Chekov remembers his visit to the planet as a green ensign. He has always believed the negotiations were too easy, and he wondered if there are people on the planet who still long for war—and have been waiting for just the right moment to upend the peace. Unfortunately, Chekov discovers he is right when he finds himself in the middle of a dangerous ploy.

I'm a huge fan of the old ToS novels and have a collection of them. This one ham-handedly forces the use of space exploration lingo/similes and is painfully predictable, even for a TOS novel. the magic of TOS novela was lost when they stopped letting the housewives who founded modern fanfic write them, IMO.

very meh in terms of TOS novela

I like that Chekov was the star of the book.
It is ni cc e to hearsome. Of the lesser people be the main character.

Written true to the characters but I hoped that the ideas of racism could not have been ignored in the conclusion of the book. There was plenty of exploration of the concept as well as the looking through the eyes of another or walking in another’s shoes. But by the end of the book you expected Chekov to self reflect on maybe the protagonist’s actions while wrong but reflected their reaction to the endemic racism that made things a little less black and white. At the end of the book Chekov only reflects on the missed romantic opportunity but did not seem to learn anything from being in another’s shoes… it did seem that the assassin did grow and change from being in Chekov shoes. It seems a missed opportunity for Chekov not to grow a bit… but maybe it is true to character that a thick headed Russian would or grow much…

Written true to the characters

I enjoyed the story, and appreciated the revival of using alien machinery that had earlier been used on CPT Kirk by Dr. Lester. Good story, overall - Much enjoyed!
