I thought this book was very good! Well written, and well done! It kept my attention!

A great story and good introduction into The Star Trek Universe

I wanted to read/listen to this book because I always have liked Star Trek and the movie to me was just kind of eh ok at best so I was hoping the book might be a little better. The book was good; it explains a little bit better of what V Ger is and what’s exactly going on. Also; I read a lot of other reviews and have to agree that the book also gives a little backstory on where these characters are now and also a little bit more on Kirk. The film I feel like they rushed it and the book takes a little more time setting things up and allowing the reader to understand of what’s going on and why it’s happening. I liked it and I think if you are someone who’s never read or seen any Star Trek I think the book overall does a good job welcoming you into the Star Trek Universe. I think you as a reader will overall like this book and I would recommend it for people wanting to be entertained and enjoy a good story. I’ve always felt that books were better than their prospective films; a readers imagination is a fabulous creation and your brain gives you a fantastic front row performance. The narrator also does an amazing job with the character voices so he kind of makes it easy for you to enjoy and it’s a great listen. You often at times (at least I found it happening for me) that the narrator does such an amazing job that you can really picture the characters in your mind speaking and talking and it’s very enjoyable. There are some good and bad voice actors and sometimes they can either really help the book or put you to sleep. Overall a great job and I really enjoyed listening to him. Really hope you enjoy this book as well and encourage you to keep going; there are many delightful Star Trek books out there....

Wonderful adaptation

Really enjoyed this audio adaptation of the original novel of Star Trek The Motion Picture. It brought out a depth to the story and the relationships. I hope it's not the last adaptation of a movie or original series novel produced. Well done to all involved and thank you

Absolutely phenomenal

What can you say? It's Star Trek at its best and the narrator absolutely smashes this adaptation of the motion picture. I flew through this narration as it was difficult to stop listening to. If you love sci-fi, this is the grandfather of when space exploration was written at its finest. A novel well ahead of its time.

Loved it

I can't compare it to the movie as it was many years since seeing it in the theater, but I really enjoyed this book. The voices were good and engaging. No complaints or regrets for my purchase. I chuckle at the space probe and wonder if this could actually happen.

A Must-Listen for Star Trek Enthusiasts

This is a brilliantly written novel with a very different take on the 23rd Century by the man who started it all. So many concepts shared here which were not used in the film but explored later in the franchise, or not used at all. It’s a terrific book, painting out the corners of the on-screen story. More interesting though is what the telling may reveal of the author, his perspective on male-female relationships, his vision humanity’s future. For me, this was an exploration of Gene Roddenberry. Fascinating.

good....but horny

This is 100% Star Trek The Motion Picture through Gene Roddenberry's incredibly horny lens. Remember that one line about an oath of celibacy in the motion picture? Well be prepared for a whole explanation of why that's there and then later why that taboo gets broken. There is so much stuff in the book about sex. How people have sex teachers, and how Deltans give off pheromones that make everybody rock hard. I'm not joking either. She walks onto the bridge and people don't want to stand because they've got boners.
If you are a Trek fan this is an interesting read. More because it gives you an insight into the mind of Roddenberry, and less because it gives more detail about the story you already know.

the story was done very well.

the story made sense out of the movie. I was pleased with the performance and the story. I would recommend it to any trekkies. the first star trek movie novelization that I found thought provoking and enjoyed.

if the movie annoys you for its long winded scenes then this book is for you - gene Roddenberry is bit of a horny writer tho so just a heads up haha

most fascinating

the narrator did an incredible job with his impressions of the original crew of the Enterprise. the story followed the motion picture pretty much to a tee but had a few extra surprises that was not on the movie. I would listen to this audiobook while doing my food delivery, which made my time driving more enjoyable. it was like I was watching the motion picture inside my mind so that I could focus on the road. I highly recommend this audiobook to any fan of the original Enterprise crew from the 1960s through the early 90s. the only thing that I think that would have made this audio book better would to have had audio cues from the original soundtrack but I'm sure the reason not having it had to do with permission and budget but even without the amazing music I could still hear that amazing theme music has the story played on. live long and prosper.
