Critic Reviews

"Bogel doesn't mull over the reading life--that would be too sedate. Instead, she busts with enthusiasm and joy, and it is infectious and absolutely charming." (AudioFile)

Quick fun read, for readers

I don’t think this book would convince someone who isn’t particularly interested in books, to start reading. But it wasn’t written to that end. No this book is for people who already make books and reading a big part of their lives, and they want to hear from someone who feels the exact same way. It’s like having a long lunch with a friend, 2 hours and 23 minutes, to be precise, because you both can’t stop talking about your favorite reads.

It’s a lovely light read, tho there are a few passages that go on long after a point is made. And the narration is a smidge choppy. But the love and enthusiasm the author has for books, is well conveyed, and if you love reading, I think you will enjoy this book.

The performance is terrible

The book is read so fast. I tried slowing down and it sounded like it was coming from inside a can. The written version is good, the audible is so fast that it hard to focus on what the written word is saying. Too bad. I like her podcasts.

Not for all readers

I am reader. But that doesn't mean A fiction reader who devours scores of books may, just may, find something to relate to. There are few things i could resonate here and there, but for most part , its a big borefest. One tip though, listen at 0.8X. it seems the narration is artificially sped up.

Short But Enjoyable

It's a very short book. It should have been either twice as long or half the cost. With that caveat out of the way, it's a book that readers would like. As C.S. Lewis wrote:

Friendship... is born at the moment when one man says to another, 'What! You too? I thought I was the only one.'

If you're an avid reader, there will be topics that resonant with you. And you'll be tickle to know other people have thought the same things, like:
* You realize halfway through a book that it's part of a series, and you inadvertently began with book four.
* You finish a book with a cliff-hanger ending... and realize the author hasn't even begun writing the next installment.
* You realize halfway through a boring flight that your new ebook purchase didn't download.
* Your 'To Be Read' list is unquestionably too long to finish before you die.
* You have countless unread books at home, but you can't resist buying one more.

Decent book

Interesting book about the delights and perils of being a reader.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE Anne’s podcast, What Should I read next and while this book is short it doesn’t add anything new for me.

It’s a jaunt into Anne’s musings on reading but I didn’t find anything new or interesting from this book which left me a little dissatisfied and disappointed.
