Publisher's summary

New York Times best seller

Grammy Award-nominated, platinum-selling musician Halsey is heralded as one of the most compelling voices of her generation. In I Would Leave Me If I Could., she reveals never-before-heard poetry of longing, love, and the nuances of bipolar disorder.

In this intimate audio performance of her debut collection, Halsey bares her soul. Bringing the same artistry found in her lyrics, Halsey's poems delve into the highs and lows of doomed relationships, family ties, sexuality, and mental illness. More hand grenades than confessions, these autobiographical poems explore and dismantle conventional notions of what it means to be a feminist in search of power.

Masterful as it is raw, passionate, and profound, I Would Leave Me If I Could. signals the arrival of an essential voice.

It’s a common turn of phrase that poetry is meant to be heard. Tone, pauses, cadence, and vocal inflections all serve to further the emotional pull of modern and historical poetic masterpieces. In audio, poems can be heard and enjoyed just as the poet meant them to be. Taking into account not only the words themselves but the way they are spoken, our list provides a look at the power behind a poem, celebrating those works which have touched our souls.

A celebrated singer finds a new voice
What’s at the top of my to-listen-to list? This debut collection of poetry from the singer Halsey. For the first time, she brings her unique voice to a classic form of self-expression. Mining her personal experiences, relationships, and beliefs, Halsey reveals her interior life with powerful prose, and, even better, she narrates it. I can’t wait to hear more from this complex artist in a new medium. —[Kelley S., Audible Editor]

Amazing

Hearing her read her words herself, as opposed to the way you’d hear them in your mind reading them on print is a vastly different experience. I enjoyed both but the audiobook is definitely worth a listen.

talented, brilliant, incredible, amazing, show stopping, spectacular, never the same, totally unique

The book and its content by themselves have already become one of my favorite set of poetry, but listening to it with Halsey’s voice is a totally different experience, it’s more raw and real to actually feel and hear when she gets angry, when she gets hurt and sad, even when she smiles.

It was amazing. Everything j thought it would be. A few hit home. A few more hit closer. And even more had me crying. This has been a delight. I am so grateful to have found you as an artist in general.

Everything you Felt As A Teen

First of all, Halsey narrating her own words is the best. She sets the mood for every poem, these poems are taken out of every teen girls journal that asked, why, what and where. I expected it to be more trying to hard to be poetic, but you can tell her heart is filled with thoughts and just come out of her naturally. Check this out for sure.

I'll stay with her, if she lets me.

I didn't know what to expect when I picked up the physical copy at B&N. Then realized she did the audible herself. I learned more about her than maybe she did herself. It's vulgar, it's sincere, it's a collection of stories about adolescence and adulthood detailed by the themes of life. life, unacquainted. 😉

All of the tears

So moving and deep. Cried tears for wounds I had not yet fully acknowledged. I am infinitely better for the time I spent listening.

One of Ashley's greatest works

If you're a fan of Halsey, this is a no brainer. It's certainly a fantastic read but hearing it narrated by her brings a whole new experience and light to her heart wrenchingly honest words.
