It's the year 2000.

Summer here in London is almost over. There are rumours the world is about to end, and yet my soft little universe is finally opening up, just getting started.

When I see him I fall through the ground. He's just a boy but I am lost in a starburst galaxy. A rip tide. A hurricane. Sweet and delicious as crisp cherryade.

I'm on fire. I'm in love…with my best friend.

Critic reviews

‘Laura writes fiction like the poet that she is. No line wasted, every word perfectly placed. The kind of relatable attention to detail that will have you wondering if she stole your teenage diaries and rewrote them with clever insights and laugh out loud humour… I loved it, I loved it, I loved it!’ DAWN O’PORTER

‘An absolutely gorgeous book. So visceral, nostalgic, mucky, heartbreaking and bittersweet. Laura captures that weird pocket of time so perfectly: before smartphones, MySpace and calling your mates on the house phone and shag bands and Green Day and all those insecurities and the sharpness of every new experience and feeling. Just DELICIOUS.’ KIRSTY CAPES

'It's a transporting, technicolour plunge into first, and enduring, love. As ever, Laura Dockrill's voice is entirely her own. She writes from the inside out and it's beautiful.' SOPHIE DAHL

I thought I could never enjoy Audible and decided to give it a whirl. I have always just read books but I must say having this as my first Audible book has set the bar high. The narrator (author) was fantastic and the story itself was great. The old school references and feelings as a teenager were not only hilarious but relatable. Highly recommend!

Loved everything about it. Would wholeheartedly recommend! The narration was beyond excellent too. Sharp as hell and loved the characters.

As an elder millennial, I 100% freakin' loved this book! After the last line, I held it together for about a minute, then I broke down in heart-bursting tears. Please read this book. Ella is hilarious, candid, and embarrassingly relatable. Her real-time inner monologue brings everything to life, especially with Laura narrating her own book--definitely recommend reading this with your ears!

SO FIT lols!
