Now with a new preface

A moving, hopeful, and refreshingly candid memoir by the husband of former Democratic presidential candidate Pete Buttigieg about growing up gay in his small Midwestern town, his relationship with Pete, and his hope for America's future.

Throughout the past year, teacher Chasten Glezman Buttigieg has emerged on the national stage, having left his classroom in South Bend, Indiana, to travel cross-country in support of his husband, former mayor Pete Buttigieg, and Pete's groundbreaking presidential campaign. Through Chasten's joyful, witty social media posts, the public gained a behind-the-scenes look at his life with Pete on the trail - moments that might have ranged from the mundane to the surprising but that were always heartfelt.

Chasten has overcome a multitude of obstacles to get here. In this moving, uplifting memoir, he recounts his journey to finding acceptance as a gay man. He recalls his upbringing in rural Michigan, where he knew he was different, where indeed he felt different from his father and brothers. He recounts his coming out and how he's healed from revealing his secret to his family, friends, community, and the world. And he tells the story of meeting his boyfriend, whom he would marry and who would eventually become a major Democratic leader.

With unflinching honesty, unflappable courage, and great warmth, Chasten Buttigieg relays his experience of growing up in America and embracing his true self, while inspiring others to do the same.

Gripping sort-of-political memoir

Chasten's story resonates with anyone who has ever struggled in the midwest. So refreshing to hear something real and genuine in a sea of political-ish memoirs. This is definitely NOT the last we'll hear from this power couple. Definitely worth a listen!

Beautiful insight into the life of someone like me

There are simply not enough words to express what this means to me, to a young gay woman. Stories similar to my own experiences make me believe in a life I never thought possible. Thank you

An unexpected insight...

Very interesting to get to know an "ordinary" guy's story with an not so ordinary twist (presidential campaign) that Chasten give you a little peek in to. Weii read with an honest feel and lots of humor.

Aw inspiring

“ I have something to tell you” gives hope and strength to those struggling to be themselves. Although my Son wrote this book, I’m proud to say he helped me in more ways than he’ll ever know. Congratulations Chasten on your first of many inspiring deliveries! Mom

Team First Gentleman

A beautiful and heartfelt story about a man I’ve grown to admire over the last two years. Chasten is witty, authentic, and courageous in his memoir and I paused several times to watch videos of the experiences he was recounting. Highly recommend.

Open, Honest, and Entertaining

Chasten gives us a no holds barred look at his life growing up gay and closeted in the midwest and what it was like being on the Presidential campaign trail as Pete Buttigieg's husband and potential first gentleman. Entertaining and educational; a glimpse into what national politics and living in the spotlight is like.
Well worth a listen!
