Publisher's summary

The healing powers of art and friendship work together in this inspiring and heartwarming novel by New York Times bestselling author Carolyn Brown.

Ever since childhood, Emma Merrill and Sophia Mason were bound by a passion for painting. Like all young best friends, they promised to never lose touch. But the girls came from different worlds, and their paths diverged when Emma went to an elite college and Sophie worked her way through state school.

After a decade they’ve reconnected, both in a time of need. Emma has been struggling with depression since her college years, and she’s lost herself under the suffocating influence of her controlling and manipulative mother. Sophie, under pressure to prepare for an upcoming gallery show, whisks the fragile Emma away to a small artist’s colony in south Texas. It’s a raw and beautiful landscape where wildflowers bloom - and perhaps Emma can bloom there, too. In the company of such nurturing and creative strangers - especially Josh Corlen, the openhearted manager of the commune - Emma allows herself to breathe again.

For Sophie and Emma, it’s the perfect place for reflection and to finally share the secret burdens each has carried. Most of all it’s a chance to rediscover their true selves and to make good on the old promise that their friendship would last forever.

Critic reviews

“Brown’s (The Daydream Cabin) gentle story of a woman finding strength within a tight-knit community has just a touch of romance at the end. Recommended for readers who enjoy heartwarming stories about women overcoming obstacles.” Library Journal

Incredulous

I do not buy that repressed memories work this way. I do not buy that trauma healing works this way. I do not buy the flat character of the evil mother. I do not buy the three different characters who have independent incomes large enough that money is never a concern. I do not like the odd writing of the characters' inner dialogues in the voices of other characters. I do, however, appreciate the story centered around two women and their enduring friendship.

Carolyn Brown's done it again!

I enjoyed sitting on the porch listening to this entertaining book! Carolyn Brown has a great down home way of writing. Then put Brittany Presley on narration and becomes just perfect for fun, heartfelt book!

lackluster

there was no meat to the story. it needed more conflict or drama so I could sink my teeth into it.

I’d like to live on hummingbird lane

I think this is the darkest book I have read by Carolyn Brown but nonetheless a hit for me! Loved the scenery, the artists and the narrator is my favorite. She’s so dreamy as a guy!!!! And cute as a girl!please write more soon!

I loved Hummingbird Lane !

I enjoyed all the characters and the Love and Kinship between them. I like the strength and power that was birthed in the first weaker characters and how they persevered. I liked how the family bond was formed between all the friends and how they became supportive family to each other.
This story gives me Hope!
Hope you all try Hummingbird Lane a story if Strength and Hope!
