Publisher's Summary

The star of the Discovery Channel's River Monsters and author of the best-selling River Monsters shares a meditation on fishing - and life.

In his best-selling first book, Jeremy Wade, the star of the hit TV series River Monsters, memorably recounted his adventures on six continents in pursuit of fish of staggering proportions and terrifying demeanor. Now "the greatest angling explorer of his generation" (Independent on Sunday) returns to delight listeners with a book of an entirely different sort, the book he was always destined to write - the distillation of a life spent fishing. Thoughtful and funny, brimming with wisdom and above all, adventure, these are pitch-perfect reflections that anyone who has ever fished will identify with, for ultimately it touches on what fishing teaches us all about life.

Meh- ok....

Not bad, but not a “how to” book as the title implies. This is really war stories from JW. I’ve never seen his show, so not much for me. I was hoping for more “thinking” and tips, but it’s stories. Good performance and good stuff in there, but overall a “meh” for me.

An honest account of a man possessed by his desire to fish

It is rare to find a book like this. Like, about fishing. Why? I don’t know, most fishermen are probably too busy fishing or getting gear ready to fish or researching fishing spots. All of these fishing related pressures are shared and detailed in this book with attention to detail and interesting story lines. I listened twice and found myself looking for something similar afterword - haven’t found it yet. Great book and performance. Thank you.

Beautiful

I love his style of writing. It is practical, philosophical, personal, educational and poetic. He shares his strengths and weaknesses while challenging the reader to self examination. It is all about fish and not about fish and so well done.

Good for fishing folks and non-fishermen alike

Technical enough for even seasoned fishermen to pick up a tip or two, but balanced with enough travel/adventure writing to engage those not interested in fishing at all. I love to hear authors read their works too. Jeremy does a great job.

Inspirational

The stories and knowledge that Jeremy passes on in this book are just incredible I've listened to it four times over and pick up something new every time I listened to it. I'm an avid fisherman and I've been fishing for over 30 years and I learned a lot from this book

A great book to learn from!!!

there is knowledge that he'll pretty much point out and knowledge he'll tell you from his experiences over the years. what I've seen from one persons review that they missed in this book is when they said there where no helpful tips. there are tons and they have helped solve some of my fishing problems. For example when he talked about how some fish could sense where the hook was, which has happened to me when a shark(not what I was targeting) was eating my bait but was not touching the part that had a large hook. the shark actively avoided my hook on every bait I casted out. As an average angler this book taught me things I really couldn't find anywhere else.
