Publisher's summary

If I said that all human behavior is belief-driven, would you think to question your own behavior and beliefs? Despite this knowledge, we seldom give much thought to our beliefs and belief systems. Indeed, do we see the world as it is or as we believe it to be? Are our thoughts so influenced by our beliefs that the perception of our reality is somewhat distorted? How can it be that much of how we experience our day-to-day world is shaped by the beliefs formed in childhood, and why do we insist on maintaining these redundant beliefs? Indeed, how many of our beliefs limit us in how we experience our world and restrict what we are ultimately capable of? Can challenging these beliefs free us from the mental confines that the thoughts in our head place us in?

In How to Overcome the Bully in Your Brain, author James Holmes dares us to challenge the voice we have in our head. The voice that says we can’t achieve, and that we perhaps aren’t good enough. He examines the cognitive biases we all hold and sets us on a path to overcome them. He will challenge you to question your thoughts and beliefs and allow you to begin to see the world differently. Parallel to upgrading the software of your mind, he invites you to take a fresh view on the thousands of thoughts you have daily and ask yourself: Are those thoughts based on outdated and unhelpful beliefs? Prepare to challenge how you see your world--you may be in for a quite a surprise!

For the past 20 years, author James Holmes has been codirector of the Hampshire Hypnotherapy & Counselling Centre in the UK. During this time, he has helped countless individuals overcome the effects of depression and anxiety, as well as using his methods to assist his clients in overcoming their addictions. Join him as he shows you how changing your thinking and challenging your thoughts can help you have the life you want and deserve.

Thoroughly enjoyed this book

This is such an interesting book, Rach chapter revealing an insight into how we think and feel. I bought it on audible and now want to buy a hard copy to go through it and highlight poignant points. It is fairly long. My only criticism is the narration is with an American accent, great for US listeners but I am sure the author is English. The book uses English expressions so it didn’t make sense to me. All that aside the book is great!
