Since the scandal fifteen years ago when Norah Macintyre lost her relationship with her dad and her best friend, she’s been floating through life. Working odd jobs, she’s low on money and responsibility. But that all changes when she inherits a fluffy Pomeranian named Marshmallow, aka “Satan’s Cotton Ball.” In addition to waking up each morning with the demonic pup biting her ankle, Norah suddenly has a new job: clearing her dad of murder.

A local architect and dog park regular has been shot, and her dad is the police’s prime suspect. Not surprising since he was ousted from the force for being a dirty cop. Norah’s friendship with Ben Doherty died in the fallout, and she and her dad have been at odds ever since. Now Ben is back in Labrador Falls, on leave from the Boston PD. He’s offering to help Norah investigate—and reminding her just how much she’s missed him.

Good-natured, loyal Ben has been crushing hard on Norah since they were teenagers. But under Norah’s cynical façade is a world of hurt that’s made her understandably wary. And the closer they get to cornering a killer, the more dogged determination they’ll need to come through unscathed…
