Publisher's summary

It’s a big break and a heartache on the same day for Alley Oz. The theft of her invaluable guitar sends this aspiring rock star on a Hollywood quest with her glam crew—including the hot guitar tech who is also her number one suspect.

While dodging an array of sleazy producers, eccentric directors, and other general weirdos, Alley offers you, aspiring rock star or movie star or both, a cheeky guide to Hollywood stardom.

This debut novel by syndicated newspaper columnist Holiday Mathis shines with punchy humor through a sexy Hollywood haze in a fast-paced romp through the imagined life of one of the world’s most iconic guitars.

Such a Fun Story! Great Performance!

I stumbled upon this book looking for my horoscope which led me to the authors website. I’m so glad I bought it. This was a really fun, lighthearted story! Fabulous performance. I hope she writes more.

A fun, sexy, Rock’n Roll road trip

How to Fail Epically succeeds in bringing the fun to a gunfight. Along the way, I may have figured out where I went wrong in Hollywood. Thankfully, it didn’t cost $300 to find out.

Fast paced Hollywood romp

How to Fail Epically in Hollywood is a breezy, fast-paced romp, or as our protagonist Alley Oz (rocker, armchair philosopher, and our guide to all things Hollywood) might say: it’s something a bit like three shots of tequila on a Friday night—you don’t know exactly what’s in store for you around the corner, but you know it’ll be a good time and lead to a great story in the morning.

The story hums along quicker than any traffic in the great state of California, with a rowdy, yet believable cast of characters that leave an impression, from the “too empathic for her own good best friend” to an array of sleazy Hollywood producers, directors, and other weirdoes, as well as one cameo that’s simply too good to spoil in this humble review.

Full of humor and even (dare I say it?) a decent amount of heart, and led by an entertaining main character, How to Fail Epically in Hollywood might have you chasing your own showbiz dreams—just follow the advice if you don’t want chlamydia (Chapter 6).

The narration has a lot of life to it and enhanced the story over reading.

…and it finished epically!

You know the feeling when you start a book to kill time, but in the end, it kills you. Yes, you read it right. KILLS YOU! How to Fail Especially in Hollywood is that book for me. I didn’t know what to expect when I read the title, that's why I’m telling you. Don’t you dare, judge a book by its cover, and in this case by its title. It didn’t do justice to the writing of Holiday Mathis or should I say Alley Oz.

Alley Oz is one of those characters that slowly but literally grows on you. A girl with only 300 bucks in her pockets, and her mother’s HotRod(guitar) in her hands to chase the Hollywood dream. Now let me tell you! HotRod is a whole legend on its own, so if you are one of those wanna-be Jimi Hendrix or Slash that’s the cherry on top for you.

Now if you guys are thinking of How to Fail Especially in Hollywood, like one of those self-help kinds of books with a lot of advice and less drama then I should warn you. And I’m talking about the severe content warning here. Because How to Fail Especially in Hollywood is Sexy as hell, and when I mean sexy, I really mean THE SEX….and how can I forget the epic ending?

It’s a thriller, sarcastic, humorous, pop-rock, and everything you need to enjoy another weekend!

Absolutely loved this funny, fast-paced story of creative people trying to make it in Hollywood. Heart-felt and hilarious. An enticing tale that will resonate with anyone who has ever worked in LA.
