Publisher's summary

The first thing I learned at vet school was to always expect the unexpected.

Well, I sure never saw Santiago Torres or his adorable Great Dane coming.

Santi is everything I’m not. Tall, confident, overbearing, and if I’m to believe his advances, he’s also very experienced in...well, you know what.

I always play safe, but it’s time to ditch the V-card. We couldn’t be more different, but that doesn’t matter, because this is just a one-time thing.

I’m not going to want more, right?

I’m not going to fall for him, right?

How to Catch a Vet is the sixth book in the Chester Falls series and features an opposites attract story between a virgin and a player, a Great Dane with a tendency to rescue—read: kidnap—other people’s pets, and a small town like no other.

There were a lot of cute and mischievous animals in this story and I loved it along with Santi and Micah and how they both had a crush on each other they weren’t ready to act on when they were younger which was adorable and I loved how helpful and caring they were to each other and other it was another great story in the series

I love this series

Micah has taken over his grandfather's vet practice and had hired contractors to build an animal shelter, but they took off with his money. Santi has been discharged from the military due to a medical illness. His dog Duchess Olive McPickles (love that name), has a tendency to "animalnap" other animals. While on a walk, Micah is knocked down by an idiot, & just so happens to meet Santi. Sparks fly, but Micah has self-esteem issues and doesn't think someone as sexy as Santi would want someone like him. When Santi finds out what happens with the contractors, he starts working on cleaning out the barn behind the practice to help Micah's dreams come true. Even though we do see the guys from prior books come & go, it can be read as a stand-alone.

I love Chester Falls

Every story in this series is great! I adored Santi and Micah. Micah is so shy and it was great listening to him come out of his shell. And Santi...he is so swoon worthy. He has his own issues dealing with his life and status changes. These two were amazing snf and Nick Hudson really brought them both to life.

Micah and Santi

How to Catch a Vet is Book 6 in the Chester Falls series. I absolutely adore this series and this book might be my favorite. Micah is a veterinarian who tends to keep to himself. Santi is an army veteran who seeks Micah's advice about some animals he has acquired. Santi and Micah are such sweet characters and are so perfect for each other. I loved how Micah and Santi cared for each other. It was nice to see Santi help Micah with his self confidence. And for Micah to let Santi know he'd always be there with him. I loved all the animals and could picture them following each other and cuddling together. It was great to see some of the other characters at the bachelor auction. This is an enjoyable book with all the feels and I definitely recommend it.
Narrator Nick Hudson does another amazing job in the series. I've really enjoyed listening to him throughout this series.

May I have Olive for a little while?

Because I need more critters in my life *dies laughing*

But, yes, if you have a pet like Olive, you better date the vet :P

This was funny, lighthearted and filled with adorable animals this is a go-to feel-good read; the characters are endearing and the way in which both fight their mutual attraction is... well, hopeless :P

I liked that there were neither miracles nor magic cures; what we find here is deep understanding, full acceptance and lots and lots of love.

Now, I'll sit here just waiting for my tour of the sanctuary :P

Micah and Santi are too adorable!

I cannot say enough about this series from Ana Ashley. Every book has been funny and quirky in its own right but this one with all its funny animals and adorable men was my favorite. This story was not only well developed showing us the background of both Micah and Santi, but I loved how the author brought in the characters from past books to round out the how-to catch aspect of the series.

Santi is a military vet with a lot of guilt from his past while Micah is a veterinarian with some self-esteem issues and a passion for rescuing animals. These two meet and the attraction is evident from the start, yet they don't act on it because neither one of them feels they are worth taking a risk on. They start out as friends but as time passes that friendship turns into more. Santi does everything he can to make sure Micah has what he wants and Micah makes sure Santi's quirky animals are loved and cared for. When they finally realize their true feelings for each other, can they along with their quirky animals have the happy ending they deserve?

I would highly recommend this book to all readers, but be prepared to laugh and cry along the way as they navigate their way through their budding relationship.

Sweet addition to the series

This is a so sweet addition to the Chester Falls series, as always spectacularly narrated by Nick Hudson. Nick always manages to get just the right voices for every character and infuses them with life and emotion. I loved Micah and Santiago, although Micah's insecurity from years of homophobia, bullying. and disregard, broke my heart. In spite of a successful vet practice and gaining Santi's love, even at the end, I wasn't sure he'd left it all behind completely. The ending with Santi was sweet and heart-warming.

Good story, just okay narrator

Micah and Santi are super cute together. I adored all the animals that Santi accumulated. I'm a big HEA fan and this book definitely delivered.
The narrator? I'm not good at leaving critical reviews, but his style left a lot to be desired. Every sentence seemed to be a question with his style of reading. If this had been my first audiobook, I would probably never listen to another. I definitely won't listen to another of his books.
The story itself is definitely worth a read - I'd just pick up the book rather than the audiobook.

Micah and Santi

This was my first book in the Chester Falls series and I enjoyed it. I liked the characters from the beginning and they had a sense of humor. Therefore, it was easy to empathize and sympathize with the protagonists.
Micah suffers from a lack of self-esteem, which is why he has never had a relationship. He is a veterinarian, but his practice is in danger of becoming a financial challenge.
Santiago has been discharged from the military due to a serious eye condition. When the two meet, Micah develops feelings for Stanti. They have great chemistry and I thought it was pretty sweet how Micah and Santi interact with each other. They are there for each other and provide stability for the other. A big plus is the pets - I love them.
The story is an easy read and I found it very entertaining.

Nick Hudson made the audiobook an enjoyable listen. He gave a solid performance and I thought he did a good job of conveying Micah's feelings.
I'm looking forward to the prequel volumes in the Chestser Falls series.

I requested a free copy of the audiobook and this is my honest opinion that I am volunteering.

A sweet romance

Another sweet romance in this series, I loved the two MCs and they were both perfect for each other. I loved the dog who brought home strays, my own dog adopted us a stray cat years ago, so I know how it feels to end up with unexpected pets.

Sweet addition to the series

This is a so-sweet addition to the Chester Falls series, narrated by the always spectacular Nick Hudson (I honestly can't imagine anyone else doing this series!) Nick always manages to find just the right voice for every character, and infuses them with life and emotion. I loved Micah and Santiago, although Micah's insecurity from years of homophobia, bullying, and disregard, broke my heart. In spite of a successful veterinary practice and gaining Santi's love, even at the end, I wasn't sure he'd left all that behind completely. The bachelor auction with Tom as emcee was a hoot, and the ending between Santi and Micah was sweet and heart-warming.

Terrific narration for an enjoyable story

How to Catch a Vet is the sixth book in Ana Ashley’s diverting Chester Falls series. Each book spins out a charming small-town romance featuring endearing characters and interesting, often surprising, couples. How to Catch a Vet is no exception.

Santiago Torres, brother of Luca and BFF of Ryan from How to Catch the Boss, has returned to his hometown of Chester Falls after being discharged from the military due to a devastating health diagnosis. His life has been upended. He’s reeling from the abrupt end of his military career. But even moreso, he’s grieving over the loss of his independence and plans for the future.

Micah Sawyer has also returned to Chester Falls to take over his grandfather’s veterinary practice. Micah’s shy and awkward, at least with people. With animals, he’s in his element, confident and at ease. Due to a confluence of events in high school, Micah became the target of bullying due to his weight and sexuality. Ostracized by his peers, he folded in on himself and tried to become invisible. He determinedly focused on his studies and his infrequent attempts at dating sputtered out. Almost a decade later, Micah is still a virgin and his self-deprecation over that fact, as well as his appearance, remains strong.

Santi and Micah make an improbable match, but they absolutely work as a couple. Complete opposites on the outside but kindred spirits on the inside. Ms. Ashley doesn’t allow this romance to fall into trope predictability because she adds dimension and depth to Santi and Micah’s relationship. She creates a lovely dynamic between them, with each needing something that the other unreservedly supplies.

She also uses Santi and Micah’s relationship to weave an important message through the story. Appearance doesn’t matter. People should be judged by who they are, not what they look like. Happiness comes from accepting yourself and your limitations, rejoicing in the things that make you unique and special, and believing in your core that you are worthy of love. Santi’s physical limitations specifically underline this point.
Ms. Ashley also injects into the story some external conflict with Micah’s high school bullies, likely to further enhance this message. She didn’t need it, though, to convey her point. Perhaps Ms. Ashley belatedly realized this, because that thread was resolved abruptly in an unconvincing way. In my view, it ultimately detracted from the story she wanted to tell, rather than enhanced it.

On the flip side, though, Ms. Ashley surrounds Santi and Micah with a crazy crew of adorable, charismatic animals which provides a very welcome and appreciated addition to the story. Santi’s continual, unintentional adoption of animals that his Great Dane brings home is as improbable as it is hysterical. But overwhelmingly, it provides a heartwarming lightness to the story that balances out the seriousness of Micah and Santi’s personal troubles.
I would be remiss if I didn’t note Ms. Ashley’s clever twist to the title of How to Catch a Vet. This time the catching goes both ways with Micah the vet catching the attention, affection and love of Santi the vet. Or maybe it’s Santi the vet catching the attention, affection and love of Micah. Either way, it works.

Nick Hudson does his usual stellar job of narrating. He breathes life into these characters and the emotion he packs into the words is phenomenal. The diction is precise, you understand every word he says, and the audio as a whole is pristine - no errors at all. When Nick Hudson is narrating, you know it will be even better than just words on the page, and that is absolutely true here.

Overall, How to Catch a Vet provides an easy, sweet read with endearing characters and some seriously adorable pets. The story is low on angst, and while it’s also low on steam, it’s high on found family and imparting its characters, and animals, with a feeling of belonging.

Wonderful story

Story = 4.5 Stars
Narration = 5 Stars

This can be read as a standalone. I haven't read any of the other books but I'm definitely going to read them after loving this one.

This was such a sweet story with plenty of humorous moments. It was low angst and low heat but had lots of passion. It was very well written with fantastic, loveable characters with excellent chemistry. If you love sweet men who love animals that get up to lots of quarky antics then you will love this.

My only complaint that would have made it otherwise a perfect 5 stars was that micah was super insecure and it got slightly frustrating but didn't prevent it from still being a wonderful story.

The narrator was fantastic and brought the story to life. I wasn't familiar with their work but they made it a wonderful listening experience. They expressed the emotions perfectly and did different voices.

This tale of two vets is hot AND sweet!

I was totally here for this tale of two vets – a veterinarian and a veteran… the former a chubby virgin with self esteem issues, the latter an extremely hot and experienced player – in a normal world these two would likely never meet, but this is Chester Falls. When these two literally bump into each other, sparks fly… Ms Ashley brought all the feels and a whole lot of steam to this story, and appearances by many of the Chester Falls residents that you already know and love are an added bonus. A Great Dane who collects her own pets provides a bit of comic relief, but the pairing of Micah and Santi is a story not to be missed, and a wonderful addition to the series. Narration by Nick Hudson is spot on, as always!

Another fantastic audio in the series!

Loved Santi and Micah’s story. Both men have their things that make them feel like they’re not worthy of being loved and I loved how their relationship developed. I also loved the menagerie of animals!!!

Heartfelt romance in Chester Falls

I can't believe that we've reached the penultimate book of the Chester Falls series! There have been so many great characters to meet along with way with some hard fought for HEAs, and Micah and Santi's are just as worthwhile.
Both men see themselves as not worth having someone/being in a relationship, for their own reasons but there's no denying the attraction from when they first meet, both over the phone and in person. Santi's little growing animal menagerie needs helps and Micah, as the towns vet, is the perfect person to help the fact that Santi likes what he sees is neither here nor there. It's heartbreaking to read what they each think of themselves with Micah seeing his physique as totally off putting to others and Santi's recent diagnosis as something to be pitied but in each other they find someone to lift them up and believe in themselves.
It's a real heartwarming romance, and then Tom gets involved meaning that community spirit is on the rise as well. It's great catching up with most of the men we've met across the series at some point in the story but my absolute favourite characters are Olive (Duchess Olive McPickles), Gus and Alfie. Such a fantastic, weirdly wonderful group of animals that work so well together and are the heart of the story really.
Overall, this is yet another heartwarming romance from Ana Ashley with easily lovable men and great group of friends that jump in to support their friends at a moments notice.
Nick Hudson yet again brings a story wonderfully to life. He guarantees to bring the character's personalities out, and even the animals in this case, showcase their romance and relationship, and make it an all round enjoyable listening experience.
