Publisher's Summary

Nate~
With the world in chaos around us, the only thing I could do was try to keep Felix safe as we searched for our older brother. We’d been traveling for over two years, searching Ministry camp after Ministry camp and trying to steer clear of the Rebels. I didn’t know what to do when we ran into a whole group of shifters with guns. But then the huge, gorgeous guy that found us did the unthinkable....

Tre~
At first I thought the two young shifters were trying to sneak up on me, but I soon realized they were only passing through. I was going to send them on their way until I heard the others coming. What was I supposed to do? How else was I supposed to save them? The delicious man and his brother would’ve been killed had I not claimed him.

Will Nate and Tre be able to work together to keep themselves and their packmates alive? Or will they let the cruelty of the outside world tear them apart?

*How We Survive is the first book in the Reclaiming Hope series, but is a stand-alone novel. Each book in the series will feature a different couple, but the couples will show up throughout the series. It’s a paranormal shifter romance between two men with explicit language and graphic sex intended for adults only.*

This book was very different from most shifter stories, I loved the world that was created here with Shifters that are at war and this isn't all about Alpha's like most are. The book was a little slow and the romance was a really slow burn but that is because of the story and what was happening in the world. I enjoyed the characters and how each of them had their own personality. I'll probably listen to the 2nd book if it's released on Audio.

The narration was good and each characters had their own voice. I didn't love the voice of Trey because it didn't sound natural but it wasn't bad just forced.

interesting, shifter story

This is a first for this author for me but not the last (eagerly awaiting the next in this series) I love the cove through the WE gets lost in it. The story was so good and it makes you not want to put it down. I loved though this is a fated mates story it wasn't instant and so easily accepted. Nate doesn't bow down to any alpha and is tough to be so young. His main concern is his younger brother Felix. They are on a trek to find thier oldest brother Ronin after thier family was slaughtered in the war.

Tre should have killed te two stray shifters but felt a connection right away though he didnt know what it was, and a familiar scent.
A lot is going on in the story and I can't say much without spoilers so I will say its awesome, not your cut of the mill shifter story and a great romance as well and the end was both good and frustrating. I want the next book like right now!
Kenneth Obi gave great life to the story. He has a soothing voice, good with character voice and pacing and acts the story not just reads it. I highly recomend the audio version.

Not a fan of dystopian stories - but this wowed!

This was so good!!!! It’s a dystopian/war type story which I usually avoid like the plague, but the romance is so sweet and the shifter world is really well-developed and captivating that when a friend recommended this I couldn’t put it down!

It’s dark and not super happy, but there are moments of light and I’m hopeful that book 2 will have some more happiness in it as well.

If you’re looking for a real shifter-centered romance where the MCs act like shifter and not just happen to shift now and then – this is for you.

Audio

Kenneth Obi does a nice job with this. He’s easy to listen to and does a nice job giving all the characters a unique voice. Definitely a good way to enjoy this story!

Brilliant...

I thoroughly enjoyed this beautifully, energetic, character driven story. Though this is a shifter story, which is one of the main reasons I selected the story, it is so much more than that. It's a story of life, love, triumph, loss, and a whole bunch of WTF's! I immediately embraced the characters beginning with Nate and Felix, Trey and Patty, the cast of characters that become intertwined into the story, the war, and the humans. The true mating story of Nate and Trey was exceptional. I have read various reviews that stated it was too slow in the making, but I loved the confusion, the denial, the tenacity, and the humility of this story and I would not have wanted it to go any other way then the way in which the author intended. Michele Notaro's story telling is fantastic and Kenneth Obi's narration skills are beyond reproach. There is so much to say about this book but to easy to spoil, so I will just state that I cannot wait for the next in this series. LOVED IT!

as good as the ebook!

The story is always full stars, because if I wouldn't like the story as ebook, I wouldn't listen to the audiobook.

The performance from the narrator is also very important for me. I can't listen to a lot, because my English as a non-native-speaker isn't so perfect to follow a whole story over hours, when the narrator speaks too fast or too sloppy. Normally I have to SEE the person, who is talking to me in English. Kenneth Obi is one of the 2 narrators (so far), I can listen without break and have no problems to follow.

PLEASE READ MY RATING SYSTEM!!!

To my ratings:

it's like an A+

4* - very good and will be often re-listening
it's like an A

3* - it's more then a one-time-listening, but not more then twice a year.
it's like a B

This took me by surprise!

Michele, Brava! This is a pleasant change of pace from the normal werewolf/vampire stories, and I am intrigued as to where you will go from here with it. I had to get past the first few chapters, but I did as I had a good feeling that it was getting better and better. And it did.

Kenneth, Bravo! You made the book come alive.

Listener, if you enjoy werewolves/vampires this is a different take and one that I found pleasing, and looking for more stories to be had from this author. I'd say get it!

Great all around

The story is post a apocalyptic setting after shifters are exposed to society, there's actual plot and drama. The description of intimacy and not just sex is refreshing and hits me deep. Its comforting and more fulfilling. I feel for the characters. Not all the voices are my favorite but the narrator does a great job. And honestly, I can't wait until the next one. I want to get it right now.

Shifters, Love, and Survival

I loved this book from the moment I started it. The action, the drama, the intense suspense was perfect. In a world gone mad, shifters are at war and Nate and Tre must survive while they battle for what they believe in. The worldbuilding was solid and I enjoyed all the characters. I enjoyed watching Nate and Tre fall in love and watch their bond grow.

The narration was wonderful and was perfect for this story.

Overall Rating: 5 Stars. This story had me hooked immediately. The writing was wonderful and the plot was interesting and enthralling. I loved this story.

loved it!

How We Survive is the first book in the Reclaiming Hope series by Michele Notaro. It is a paranormal shifter romance that is well written, creative, interesting and entertaining. It is sort of a fake mate turns real theme and has drama/angst, suspense and violence... but also romance. Nate and Tre are great characters and I loved their story. I have high Hope's for the test of the series after such an amazing beginning.

Narration by Kenneth Ob is fantastic. The voicework is clean and smooth, with personality and feeling. The recording is clear and fantastic.

Wow

Action packed drama. Nate and Felix have been alone since their father was killed 3 years before. They stumble into an abandon town where they meet Demetrius and he saves them by saying Nate is his mate. Which saves them and then finds out they are True mates whilst being captured and tortured but they escape. Can't wait to continue their journey and the pack.

Too Much Affection

There is a little too much affection in this book for my taste. If it had been in paperback, the guys would have nuzzled or kissed or hugged on every single page. Sometimes it was swoon worthy, but other times, it just made me roll my eyes. Like making out during an intense rescue scene for example. I didnt see it fitting the alphas personality sometimes. Overall I really enjoyed it though and will be keeping my eye out for book 2 on audio. I'm super curious about Felix, as well as a few of the other pack mates. Kenneth Obi did a great job with all the voices. I rarely had to second guess who was talking, and he had very distinct narrative voices for the 2 MCs. Overall, 3.5/5*.

Sweet listen

This book had a lot of potential, but it was just too sweet, sappy and slow at times and it didn’t keep my attention. I’m sure some people will love it, especially with it being such an affectionate book, but I can’t help but think it could do with a good editor to go over it and bring it together a bit more. Still an ok listen though.
