Acerca de esta escucha

“Fascinating... A thought-provoking journey into emotion science.” - Wall Street Journal

“A singular book, remarkable for the freshness of its ideas and the boldness and clarity with which they are presented.” - Scientific American

“A brilliant and original book on the science of emotion, by the deepest thinker about this topic since Darwin.” - Daniel Gilbert, best-selling author of Stumbling on Happiness

The science of emotion is in the midst of a revolution on par with the discovery of relativity in physics and natural selection in biology. Leading the charge is psychologist and neuroscientist Lisa Feldman Barrett, whose research overturns the long-standing belief that emotions are automatic, universal, and hardwired in different brain regions. Instead, Barrett shows, we construct each instance of emotion through a unique interplay of brain, body, and culture. A lucid report from the cutting edge of emotion science, How Emotions Are Made reveals the profound real-world consequences of this breakthrough for everything from neuroscience and medicine to the legal system and even national security, laying bare the immense implications of our latest and most intimate scientific revolution.

“Mind-blowing.” - Elle

“Chock-full of startling, science-backed findings... An entertaining and engaging read.” - Forbes

Neuroscience Lite

A little bit lighter on neuroscience than I was expecting, but overall a compelling account of how emotions are constructed.

This is a wonderful read!

I almost feel guilty being able to read this book and learn all the information in a couple of days, when it took Professor Barrett and her team years to discover their findings. Not only was the information in this book interesting, the ideas and concepts I learned from reading this book are tangibly applicable to furthering developing myself and the way I interact with those around me. I am admittedly not a tough critic, and it is rare when I feel like I've wasted time reading something. However it's even more rare for me to feel as grateful to myself for taking the time to read a book, as I feel about this one.

Superb

complexity of the brain gives in to the preciseness and clarity of s Feldman's prose.
everyone can profit and learn from this book from Psychiatrist,Psychologist Philosophers and plebeians. It is a pure Intellectual pleasure with many Aha moments and Ms Feldman humanism, sincerity and open-minded was are interwoven in a text. she realizes that in gargantuan task of explaining Brain and Emotional - there is no room for Dogmatism.
her optimism,self-effacement and showing our mortality is endearing

Best Book about the Brain

If you want to better understand what is going on under your hat, read this book. Read it first or read it last, you'll see that the science of brain study is summarized here. In the context of constructing emotions, Barrett shows us more of how the brain works than others who have tried. This makes sense.

Repetitive!

The book has a good thesis. It is interesting and original. Moreover, I believe this thesis is correct. However, the book could be shortened by two thirds. It makes the same point over and over. It's a good first step into a new understanding of our brains and emotions. It's not the full story, but a better, more correct story.

Favorite neuroscience book yet

Great insight into the human brain not just emotions. I don't know why but this book feels like it sits on more research than the other books and especially articles I've read.

Enough facts

There's a lot of information in this book, the writer makes good work in repeating them so that they stick and resonate.
I read people mentioning that there are not enough facts or neuroscience in the book. The book talks about a wide theory that has numerous applications and she did show that through going through a lot of fields. There was no need to indulge more in neuroscience since this theory goes beyond neuroscience. Overall it is an interesting read and a thought provoking concept.
