Publisher's Summary

Originally published in 1936, this is Anaïs Nin's first work of fiction. But unlike her diaries and erotica, House of Incest does not detail the author's relationships with her famous lovers, nor does it contain graphic depiction of sex. Rather, it is a surrealistic look within the narrator's subconscious mind as she attempts to escape from a dream in which she is trapped, or in Nin's words, as she attempts to escape from "the woman's season in hell." Nin's usage of the word "incest" in this case is metaphorical, not literal. In other words, in this book the word "incest" describes a selfish love where one can appreciate in another only that which is similar to oneself.

Needs to be read by an organic intelligence being

Anais Nin is one of my very favorite authors. Her work is inspired, unique, and Full of
passion.
The lack of nuance in the voice that reads this book is like pouring prozac on sex. It does Not
work. So monotone and boring was the audio that I found myself distracted by other thoughts;
this should never ever happen when enjoying the incredible writing of Anais Nin.
If you want to really experience Anais Nin in the real world, you should buy a paperback, sit
down with a glass of wine and a good friend and read it. You will get 99% more out of the
book this way.
All in all, I was very disappointed. I wish I'd have listened to a sample read before buying.
Live and learn. Always listen to a sample read first to see if you agree with the narration.

I absolutely love that Nin's work is finally being made available in audio. I really enjoyed this, and the narrator did a fantastic job as well.
