Stephen Jon Thompson was just nine years old when his mother said goodbye to him and his four younger siblings in a motel room in Reno, Nevada in January 1980. In *Hotel Goodbyes*, Stephen tells his incredible, gripping life story and how his mother may have abandoned him, but she also gave him a gift, the gift of a better life.

This was a moving memoir of a tough childhood. I’m glad the author gets the happy ending he so deserves.

Amazing book. Excellently written and compelling. Even though a lot of it dealt with the heaviest topics, the hope and optimism in the author’s spirit are ever present throughout and, as such, it doesn’t feel hard to get through like a lot of other heavy-topic books. As a former Nevadan and person who worked with a state agency in Carson City, I also felt connected to the text there. And as an adoptive parent as well. It’s a really great and touching book that I’m recommencing to friends and family.

I enjoyed the story and everything about it. I did not enjoy the voice of the narrator.

Most of us grow up with a childhood. A few don't though. This is the story of one person who was dealt a terrible hand of a childhood. He preserved. This is his story.

One man's story about overcoming

A beautiful story of perseverance, hope and determination! I was hooked from beginning to end, finishing in only a day. I really enjoyed hearing Stephen’s story.
