Publisher's Summary

After spending an unknown number of days caged, chained, and tortured by men wearing hoods in the darkness of a root cellar who insist he robbed a bank and killed several women, 25-year-old Ben Hawthorne is rescued by four men. But who are these men, and why were they looking for him - the son of Eli and Cora Hawthorne, born on a ranch outside of Nacogdoches, Texas, orphaned at 10 when his parents were killed by Comanches, and then taken by the Comanches who gave him his Indian name, Newcomer?

When he learns that his “rescuers” are in fact bounty hunters who believe he is the son of a rancher named Locklin, he doesn’t understand. Matters become even more puzzling when he is taken to the home of Locklin and the big-time rancher recognizes him as his missing son of five years, Seth. Things continue to confuse Ben when he is shown a picture of Seth and it is like looking in a mirror. Hawthorne knows who he is, but everyone he meets believes he is Seth, including Seth’s sister and Caitlan Black, the spitfire who was Seth’s childhood friend, who is ready to go to war with Arch Locklin over access to water.

Fairy tale fiction at its finest!

I was confounded and fascinated with this story. The mental conundrum that Ben-Seth endured was an amazing twisting mystery. The author did a remarkable job laying out the tale, expertly adding a red herring here and there to distract, throwing us off, and keeping us guessing. The slow-building plotline had me discouraged at first but I was hooked and had to continue. So many coincidences and the twins, then the wives’ names. It’s a bit humorous when you think of it. The budding romance of Black Kat and Ben added the right amount of must-have romance. Any nit-picking aside, I really enjoyed the story and think Soper produced an excellent bit of fiction. Traber Burns was wonderful as well. A definite recommendation.

West With a Twist

I was on the edge of my seat throughout the story. From the first paragraph to the last, I was hooked with a passionate curiosity. There are many who done it's, but I had to know who is he and would not guess until the final chapter.

Narration was Excellent, Story Entertained

Overall, the story was entertaining enough. Narration was excellent and the story was ambitious. The complex setup kept me wondering if the resolution would be clever enough to match it. But, as it went on, the story seemed forced and contrived at times. The concept was an interesting idea that kept me listening. Unfortunately, the final resolution was drawn out and predictable, despite multiple red herrings that served to muddle the plot and undermine the ending’s satisfaction.

I liked the way the story came together, the various plots that weaved themselves like a fine Navajo rug

Great Read

This is the first time I've "read" a book by this author, but it definitely won't be the last.

Plenty of action and a bit of mystery. I whizzed through this a far too quickly, it was that gripping.

Traber Burns is a particularly good reader for a western.
