Talented Writing

This was a fabulous story. The author has no bias. He doesn’t tell you what to think, he just tells a great story. Love the descriptive language.

True Love

If you loved John Wayne's movie or the TV show you will really enjoy this book. It is really a love story with a western theme.

Another great book

Just enjoyed it thoroughly. Simple pleasures; like pizza and beer. Or, wine and cheese. Take your pick. L'Amours's books are just like that. A sheer pleasure to read. Nothing to worry about. No threat, no sweat. Just pure country pleasure wrapped up in a lean, mean cowboy who can shoot fast, and walk hard --- and some pretty women (who might be good or bad). PLOTS generally run the same, but what the heck. So do the romances, and the mysteries.Yet, read them we do. Simmer down and enjoy.

Great story. Wonderful narrator. Loved the character Hondo and that this was not only a great western story but there was also a well told romance.

If you read one Louis L’amour book read this one.

A Western genre classic. Entertaining and quick read with a good performance. I only wish it were longer.

Outside my usual genre, beautiful writing, if not dated.

Outside my usual genre, I'd never taken any interest in Western films nor books, thinking they usually idolize colonialism over Indigenous Peoples, Peoples, and even less appealing after I spent time on an Apache reservation myself. However I'm glad a book club prompted me to try this. I trusted David Strathairn's superb acting background, appreciated protagonists' respect and reverence for Apache culture, writer'srepresentation of the characters. Beautiful writing, if not dated. Chapter 12 was particularly beautiful, read like gorgeous poetry.

this is by far one of Louis l'amour's best written books you will enjoy the read and the storyline is great

Great listen

I remember my late grandfather reading me this story when I was a kid, and while listening to it brought back so many great memories. Loved it!

Simply enjoyable

The story is simple. Yet I still found myself interested in knowing what happens next. Vocals set a mood.
