Kara’s back in Garland Cove after realizing the only place she really wanted to be was home. But home was the setting for her biggest heartbreak ever. Her brother’s best friend had been her one true love – he just didn’t know it. She did everything possible to keep it a secret. And now that she’s back, she might run into Pete. Garland Cove isn’t that big. She has no idea how she’ll handle that.

Pete is finally getting over the fact that he wasn’t good enough for the NFL. That had been his dream since he’d been a kid, but it wasn’t meant to be. Even great play in high school and college didn’t get him any looks from NFL scouts. So now he was the football coach at his high school and he was making a difference in the lives of the kids. He liked that about the job more than anything.

When Kara and Pete finally run into each other, she still has a major crush on him. She tries to hide it but it’s almost impossible. She crosses her fingers that he doesn’t notice. But maybe he’s worried about the same thing.
