Publisher's Summary

The battle of survival against the invading aliens heats up...but Hell Squad never quits.

General Adam Holmes' life is dedicated to keeping his small band of survivors alive. On the run, with only Hell Squad and the other soldiers for protection, they are making their last dangerous drive to the secret stronghold of the Enclave. But there are a lot of aliens between them and their destination, and the survivors are tired, worn, and at the end of their limits. Adam feels the pressure dragging him down, but as their leader, he can't be their friend and he can't dump his burden on anyone else.

Long before the alien invasion, Liberty Lawler survived her own personal hell. Since then, she's vowed to enjoy everything life has to offer and she's managed to do that, even in the middle of an apocalypse. She does what she can to help the survivors in her convoy, but one man holds himself apart, working tirelessly for them all. Liberty can see Adam is at his breaking point and she vows to tear through his rigid control and save him from himself.

But the aliens are throwing everything they have at the humans, trying to stop them from reaching the Enclave. Adam will find his resolve tested and the pressure higher than ever. But it will be one beautiful woman - one who won't take no for an answer and who worms under his skin - who can save them all and give him the strength to go on.

The Man in Charge

Adam Holmes is the leader of the convoy from blue mountain base and is feeling the strain. Liberty Lawler is the unofficial morale booster and "lady in the know" who can somehow get you the little things that make you feel human (while under alien invasion lockdown).

The way these two complement each other and find that they might just be stronger together is one of the things that I love about Anna's writing.

So much action

This series is so good; this should be a TV series! I loved the interactions between Liberty and Holmes; their thoughts out loud made me laugh out loud. It’s a good mix of action, drama, adventure, heartache and love. Narrators continue to do a great job with the characters. On to Niko

Joy in the mundane things!

It was great that Holmes, the Hell Squad’s fearless leader, was able to find a woman to balance and support his worries for all whom he is responsible for!! Liberty is no wilting flower either🥀! She’s rebounded from her own personal tragedy and lives to find joy in the everyday things that others may think is mundane, which is exactly what Holmes needs to encourage and sustain him!! However, I’m getting very annoyed with those Damn aliens 👽!! Can’t wait to until those beasts are defeated 🤬😡🤬

Being in charge sucks!

General Holmes is the highest ranking officer left in the United Coalition. He is doing his best to keep everyone alive. The plot thickens in this new adventure in the series. The author has hell of an imagination at creating a unique world and characters.
This is a well written storyline that if you enjoy Sci-fi romance you will love this series.
The narrator’s do a fabulous job with the characters and voices of each character making it easy to distinguish between the characters. They do a fantastic job with this duet.

Good story but....

BOOK REVIEW........
This book was not a favorite. I like the characters of Homes and of Liberty a lot but the pair together was just missing something. I didn't really feel a connection between them. Plus Homes's attitude towards getting involved with her really dragged the story down. Yes he's in charge of everyone's safety and well being, we get that but come on just because you fall in love doesn't mean that everything and everyone else in your life no longer matters to you. His inner whining about not being able to be in a relationship because he needs to focus only on his people, got old real fast. I just wanted to reach through the book and smack the hell out of him. Also I think the Claudia issue was smoothed over way to easily. I would have like more dialogue there. Deciding to give her over to the aliens was a big deal. Yes it all worked out in the end but still there should have been some resentment towards him or something by somebody. I mean it's one thing to decide your own fate but for another to decide it for you is entirely different. I just thought there should be more.

NARRATOR REVIEW......
The narrator did a good job with bringing the characters to life.

Love it!

This is the next in the Hell Squad saga and it is fantastic. Samantha Cook & Jeffrey Kafer do a spectacular job bringing this book to life. I was drawn into the story from the first line and it was done before I realized it. If you have fallen in love with any of the previous books, this one might just take the top spot. As with the rest of the series, the characters are well developed and the type that makes you cheer for their successes and fight to breath when all looks dark.
I can't wait for the next book!

Leading by Example

General Adam Holmes' life is a solitary one and that's how he likes it, until her. On the run to the secret stronghold of the Enclave, he faces tough decisions every day. Decisions that could mean sacrificing good men and woman for the greater good. That means no friends and definitely no love. But love has a way of finding you when you least expect it.

Liberty Lawler is the good time girl with a heart of gold. A girl who survived her own personal hell well before the aliens came. Since then, she's vowed to enjoy everything life has to offer, whilst helping others. She supports the survivors as best she can but one man holds himself apart, working tirelessly for them all. Liberty can see Adam is at his breaking point and she vows to help him no matter what. She's not attracted to clean cut good guys but she can be his friend, Right....

As the fighting intensifies Adam will find his resolve tested and the pressure higher than ever. But it will be one beautiful woman - one who won't take no for an answer and who worms under his skin - who can save them all and give him the strength to go on. Give him a reason to fight. A reason to live. A reason to love. Love always finds a way even in the middle of the apocalypse.

A loved this story of two opposites finding a common cause and a love that defies all. Adam and Liberty are great characters and remind us that among the death and destruction 'normal life' goes on. That to survive the unthinkable everyone has to find a reason to live...

thought it would have been a bit more intense

the general seems to be a pretty hard nut to crack and I thought Liberty would have to work a lot harder. I guess the length of the story gave me an indication that it wouldn't take too long for him to fold.
The Chase goes on and lots of landmarks that a person from Australia would know but now the Enclave is finally within reach so it's interesting to see what Anna Hackett comes up with now.
I like the way that the enemy is getting smarter and adapting I think that's just the only way that Anna Hackett can guide the story without it being to same same.
some nice surprises along the way and I still love hell squad, section 9 and the berserkers but now that we are at the Enclave there will be more love matches I'm sure.
Samantha did a hell of a job narrating using all her tones inflections and accents however Jeffrey is still good at military but doesn't use his accents I suppose if he's not good at them it's best for him not to use it

Really Really Good

Book 8 of Hell Squad called Holmes is about General Adam Holmes and Liberty Lawler who are thrust together during a desperate race by the survivors of Blue Mountains Base to the enclave. General Holmes is a dedicated soldier bent on keeping the humans survivors and soldiers safe but unfortunately being the leader means he has to make difficult decisions that affect the lives of others and the strain is really beginning to wear on him. Enter Liberty who sees the effects of his command on the General and makes it her mission to help him whatever way she can. As the two get closer the passion that flares between them is hot and unstoppable even in the midst of the alien invaders pulling out all stops to get to them. Another excellent addition to the series full of heart stopping action, laugh out loud humour, humans, aliens and scorching hot romance. I highly recommend this book and the series as a whole but be warned it is addictive and you won't be able to stop once you start the series.
